Or soon will be. Today I had my second interview with a leading logistics company. They just called and said I got the job and can start Thursday. I’ll be inside sales for 3 to 6 months, then move to outside sales, new business development, or marketing, depending on which direction I want to go and where they see my strengths.
And I have a second interview for sales at a fiber optics manufacturer scheduled Monday morning. If they offer me a job I’m not sure what I’ll do.
Either way, I’ll soon be working somewhere.

Congratulations and good luck!
I'm still getting more rejections than a pimply faced freshman trying to get a date for the homecoming dance.
Now been unemployed for almost 2 weeks, and I don't like it!

2 weeks? It took me four months.
It took me a while to ramp up my efforts. Initially, I’d scan through jobs but didn’t find much that I was interested in. About a month ago, maybe two, I figured I’d better start getting serious about finding something. Anything.
I got plenty of rejection emails. them thar were the good ones. The rest, the majority, just don’t bother to respond. Of the rejections, I would have liked to know which ones thought I was under qualified and which thought I was over qualified. I’d add which ones thought I was too old, but my resume only goes back 20 years. (Why volunteer that I’m as old as I am?)
I had a hard time getting past the initial phone interviews. Once I did, I had a hard time getting past the first face-to-face interview, even when I thought I’d nailed it. Although at that point they might’ve figured out that they were meeting with a guy 60 years older than what he looks like on paper.
The offer today and the one that may or may not be forthcoming on Monday both came about differently. Both companies retrieved my resume from one of the job posting sites that I responded to. I didn’t actually apply to either company. They found my resume then contacted me. Neither conducted a phone interview, they started with a face-to-face. All along I’ve been trying to sell myself, but on these two initial interviews I took a different approach and tried to get them talking to let them sell me on the company. That may sound more complicated than it was. The actual tactic was to walk in, introduce myself, sit down, and shut up. There was what seemed like a very long silence. It wasn’t comfortable, but I just sat there and waited for them to break the silence. And then they started talking. The more they talked, the better I could tell what they were looking for, and I built on that, doing my best to let them know I was exactly what they were looking for.
Job hunting is a lot different today than the last time I did it 13 years ago. There are a lot of job boards out there, if that’s what you call them. And the more you respond to, the more job boards seem to come out of the woodwork. I get about 30 to 50 emails a day, all with supposedly related jobs. And then there are the “predatory recruiters” offering jobs in insurance sales, financial services, car sales and other stuff you’re pretty sure you want no part of. Note: if you suspect you don’t want to be involved, don’t answer the emails. You’ll know for sure that you made the right decision when you start seeing their relentless followups. all of them thar guys are obviously desperate.
Good luck in your hunt, Chuck. And don’t let the two weeks bother you. That’s nothing more that a brief vacation.

That's great news, Jim. And you didn't even have to dye your hair for it! Love reading about the process.

That's great news, Jim. And you didn't even have to dye your hair for it! Love reading about the process. There’s not much to be dyed. I set the clippers on the minimum setting and buzz away. The part that I still haven’t gotten used to is using just a teeny weeny bit of shampoo. Anything more than that is a waste.

Congratulations! Probably paid to come clean with them about the spitting-on-their-pizza thing, huh? No, no bodily fluids. I’ve cooled them to just above freezing, smothered them in cigarette smoke, and upended them, but never added bodily fluids. Cause that’d just be gross.

You wanted to go back to work?? Well, congrats. Eating is good. If it paid better I’d have no problem with being professionally unemployed. My dog is going to miss the daily walks. And I’m going to miss being able to do what I want, when I want.

Did they tell you about the new office they were planning on putting in Bugsby, ND? The new sales team that would be covering western ND and eastern Montana? All 9,032 lovely square miles of it?
