Anyone have beta blockers? Even thought I love the song "Stage Fright", in recent years I have developed a serious case of it when playing solo. My work has been trio, quartets, and such for recent years.

My work has been trio, quartets, and such for recent years. We have a good friend and former American Fingerstyle champion who now has stage freight. One solution is to assemble an ensemble while you're here. We do a lot of that sort of thing. No need to go solo if it makes you uncomfortable. .

I'm always available for Other Guy/backup duty. You can even unplug my guitar and turn off my mike. Or I can mime playing.

Thanks for the support. Solo guitar doesn't require backup, especially in DADGAD. I can flat pick fiddle tubes with Millring and noodle with Howard without freaking out.

You could try some Mogan David 20/20. I once ran naked through downtown Fargo after drinking a pint of the stuff. Not a trace of stage fright.

With all due respect to the frivolity that runs this place, I am driving 3600 miles round trip and I intend to play at my best.

It'd be useful to get a list of who is planning on playing Saturday night. It'd be good to know who's playing so Dradtke and Melva can make it all fit in with the time we have.

I'd be real surprised if you can get a meaningful list before Saturday afternoon. With new (to iJam) people there will be some spontaneous ensembles created that probably can't be predicted until we see how players click. Fiddlerina is up for sitting in with anyone who wants her. Castle Ridge will probably do a couple of tunes but we may want others to sit in with us. I say, let the groups form as they will.

Mr. Speaker, I yield my performance time to the artist from--well, anywhere.

I just wanted to get the spontaneous ensemble idea into people's heads before Saturday. I can picture lots of great stuff.

I generally feel the same way, having always been more of an ensemble player, not a soloist. Because I am not Leo Effin' Kottke. We can hatch a plan to back each other up, perhaps? That should evaporate some of the stress. I have also found it helpful to have a nice piping cup of coffee before playing. What I meant to post here this evening is that I am becoming quite excited about this and look forward to seeing those of you I have already met in person, and meeting more old friends I have not yet met.

Being the newbie, you can always figure on pushing me out of the way. I don't mind. I can, on request, fill-in on most anything with a quick run down of key and chords. Won't take a lead unless I'm sure I've got something to add. www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIfl2o44zb0

Some ensemble combinations can produce magic. I remember a night at the back room of the Ozone with frontman Lars, Joy on fiddle, Roger on bass, and Jerry on bottleneck slide. They sounded like they had been on the road for months instead of having just met. Wish I had a recording of that to make sure it was them or the Capt Morgan shots with David and Melva. Almost forgot the Professor on pizza box.

I can step up, if you need a "filler" or just be a "bench warmer" if we're crunched for time. I'll be quite content either way.
