9/11/01, I had gotten off a night shift at the hospital and was at home winding down with a little TV before bed. Then shit got weird. I was on the phone with my Dad as I knew he didn't have TV in his office and probably hadn't heard the news. As I was talking to him I saw the 2nd plane hit. Thought it was a replay at first but then things clicked.
Currently, finishing up a night shift at the same hospital.
Probably the oddest thing, to me, in the few days after the attack was the lack of air traffic over Mpls. I was out on a smoke break in the wee hours; dead silent outside which, two miles from the airport doesn't ever happen. Then the silence was broken by jet noise, I looked up and it was an F-14 on patrol. Weird.

Good morning. Flag is at half staff. We had a TV in our conference room where we watched the towers fall. We had 125 people in the towers but they were on low floors and all got out, just lucky I guess. I have a niece who was late for work that morning and was walking toward the towers while everyone else was running away which she didn't understand. She's still a little crazy from it all. A friend was across the river in New Jersey and he was a little crazy for awhile but seems OK now as more personal problems have over shadowed watching the towers fall, kind of funny how that happens. In any case, an unforgettable day and yes the silence of the following weeks occasionally broken by fighter jets was eerie.
On the up side, whatever bug I had yesterday has subsided and most of the pain is gone. I'll still be taking today off though. Hope all the Ijammers get home safely.

I happened to have CNN on and saw the second plane hit. Amazing.
I also remember exactly where I was when I got the news that Kennedy had been shot.
Went home for dinner a little earlier--temaki sushi (kind of roll your own, but no beer since I drove back).

I had just driven Larry to work in town and headed back to the farm to get to work. It was a beautiful clear September day. Listening to CBC radio I heard the announcement of the first plane. Called Larry. Booted up the computer and headed for the Acoustic Guitar forum and started a thread of condolence. Worried about Howard Lee.

American Tune
Many's the time I've been mistaken, and many times confused Yes and I've often felt forsaken, and certainly misused Ah but I'm alright, I'm alright, I'm just weary through my bones Still you don't expect to be bright and bon-vivant So far away from home, so far away from home
And I don't know a soul who's not been battered I don't have a friend who feels at ease I don't know a dream that's not been shattered or driven to its knees But it's alright, it's alright, for we live so well, so long Still, when I think of the road we're traveling on I wonder what's gone wrong, I can't help it I wonder what's gone wrong
And I dreamed I was dying, I dreamed that my soul rose unexpectedly And looking back down at me, smiled reassuringly And I dreamed I was flying, and high up above my eyes could clearly see The statue of liberty, sailing away to sea, and I dreamed I was flying
But we come on a ship they called Mayflower We come on a ship that sailed the moon We come in the ages' most uncertain hours and sing an American tune And it's alright, oh it's alright, it's alright, you can't be forever blessed Still tomorrow's gonna be another working day and I'm trying to get some rest That's all I'm trying, to get some rest

Good Morning Good People
IDIOT JAM GOES BY WAY TOO FAST!!!
Another lovely September morning after a late-night discussion of bluegrass and swing in the Cobblestone Lobby. Sitting in the Frank family kitchen in the company of Dexter, Howie and Emmy. Off to the Vinton Family Restaurant shortly and thence the long trek home.
September 11, 2001 was a normal morning at the office until a coworker walked in and said a plane hit the World Trade Center, then a second coworker walked in and said two planes hit the World Trade Center. The rest of the week was spent glued to internet news feeds. The next week the boss wondered why we hadn't made our productivity goals during the week of 9/11.

I had just finished replacing someone's hip and walked into the break room for a cup of coffee before starting the next case and saw it on the TV. We had a full day in the OR so I caught updates between cases.
A friend who was an Orthopaedist in Minneapolis had a son die in that tragedy.

9/11/01 we were at the San Diego airport waiting to board for the flight home. They kept delaying boarding and announced there was a problem in New York. Huh? I went into a nearby lounge to watch the TV. Watched it all...the 2nd plane hitting live, etc. I was one of the few civilians in the lounge among a host of military. It was clear they were seeing this through different eyes than I was.
We were stuck in San Diego for the next 5 days or so.

I like xyrn had just finished a night shift when first plane hit. Went home in disbelief, then watched the second plane hit. Good Lord. Sat and wondered how we would retaliate.
Today, sitting in the Vinton Family Restaurant. Hope someone else shows up as i will leave for the airport and the trek home directly from the parking lot and have not said my good byes. So...
Thanks to all you wonderful idiots. What a wonderful weekend. It's nice to be reminded this forum was based on music and friendship, not political bickering. As Marty said, I'll scream if I see one more thread on the best pickup, but our common interest is music... and friends. Yes, friends.

Fifteen years ago I saw the news as I was getting ready to go to work. Because I worked in a twin tower highrise in downtown Phoenix (Arizona Center), Mr. H didn't want me to go. I did go, but drove instead of taking my usual bus. Very little work got done that morning and they sent us home after a couple of hours. I ended up being the taxi for other people who had taken the bus.

I was 4 years sober and conducting a Big Book study at a place called the Retreat, just west of Minneapolis. They called us into the common room, we watched the second plane hit... then I went back into trying to show these kids how to stay sober in the face of adversity.
This was a glorious Idiot Jam... hustling now to catch the tail end of breakfast.

I was working on a Habitat for Humanity house, an annual service project of our company. One guy got a call from his wife that a plane hit the tower. We thought small plane, weird accident. Then more people got calls so we checked car radios and a fellow plugged a small b/w TV into his cigarette lighter in his pickup. We fiddled with the rabbit ears and saw some grainy coverage.
