An announcement on his Facebook page.
"It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away. We have lost one of music’s most revered and prolific visionaries. A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date. The family requests privacy during their time of grief."
I officially now hate everything.

NPR had some good interviews and stories on him as of late, including some cuts from his latest (and very recent) album, which was compared to Johnny Cash's last in terms of message and approach. During the interview he said he had lots of things to finish, but he was ready to go. RIP.

RIP Not being a big Cohen fan, I thought Suzanne was great but the rest left me cold. But McCabe and Mrs. Miller sold me on his greatness.

This is very sad news indeed... Here's a track I recorded years ago with DeAnna Kennedy... Rest in peace, Leonard. Bird on a Wire

Poetry and music seemed to come out of his pores, and he never stopped looking for answers to big questions.

My condolences to his family and friends. "Strange greatness" is a great way of describing his life's work.

He was a bigger influence on me than Dylan, and more iconic of the times. Seemed more true to his music and his muse throughout his life. RIP Mr. Cohen

I liked several of his songs. The only one I ever learned to play was "Suzanne." I did a fingerstyle accompaniment before I knew what fingerstyle was. I'm going to see if I remember how.
