The turnout at Andrew's funeral is testament to a life that left the world a better place. My heart aches for you and your family Evan. Be open to all the love that is offered and the ears that are willing to listen.

Don't know if this has been discussed here or not, but one of my wood sources sent me a note to remind me that ALL Rosewood varieties and Bubinga will now be CITES Appendix II with the exception of Brazilian which is already Appendix I. Rosewood Article from the Guardian

Rosewood Article from the Guardian Key sentence: "Rosewood is also used to make some musical instruments, such as guitars, but the new rules will not prevent musicians travelling with their instruments."

Once again the Chinese have shown their complete disregard for environmental and species protection. They want rosewood furniture and ivory decorations and will ignore any CITIES regulations and continue to fuel the black market. There are merchants in China with tons of warehoused black market ivory waiting and hoping for the Elephants extinction in the wild. The Chinese are not evil it's just that in their culture rosewood and ivory are items that represent wealth and prosperity. Until we get that to change we cannot end the black market trade in those items.
Madagascar has only 20% of it's forests left standing due to logging and slash and burn farming. In short order it could mean not only no more wood but the extinction of thousands of species found only in Madagascar.

Yes, but as a luthier that had a great relationship with a canadian firm, that I got tonewood from for years, that is not going to fill out CITIES paperwork, I need to find a new place to get wood. Since it is appendix II there are limitations that allow the carrying of an instrument (actually 10kg so don't take too many guitars with you) without paperwork or for non-commercial purposes (so don't try to sell them or make money with them). What I foresee are issues with travel across boarders when you are dealing with the boarder agent that has no clue what the rules mean now. You'd better carry a copy of CITIES treaty with you so they understand what appendix II means.

Absolutely wonderful that Alan was there. That's great.
Some of you have seen our driveway. Kim got stuck half-way up it this morning. We had the kind of slushy snow turns into a slick under a car tire. It took a while, and believe me I took my time, getting it back up to the house. She's in the market for a new vehicle, and this one will have four wheel drive.
