Last day of January. Less than 2 months 'til Spring. We're supposed to get back into the 50s F today. I'll take it. Life goes on.
Got the taxes filed yesterday and get most of my money back so I won't be financing much government this year. Virginia is really kind to old folks so I pay them nothing. I pay property taxes to the county but nothing to the state other than sales taxes. My pension insists on withholding state tax so I just get that back when I file. Some of my Social Security is taxable but it's only a couple of hundred bucks. Always glad to get that out of the way for the year. Should have the returns in a couple of weeks. Being retired is great.
No plan for today but the wife's still asleep.
Happy Tuesday.

Morning
39F/4C Cloudy, maybe some snow/rain.
Take DaWife to work, take out the trash and then get to work in the shop. The city started recycling pickup but they can't seem to figure out what day they are going to do that. We were told Wednesday but so far they haven't got to us until Thursday. They also dropped all the recycling bins off in the back alley but that was during good weather and once it snowed there is no way the truck is going to get down that steep downhill dead end alley. The residents along that short alley, knowing better, all put our bins out front were the city says they don't belong. The folks across the street don't have a alley and neither does the rest of the residents on our side of the block. Hope they figure it out by Spring.

there's nothing like being 1/12th done with a year that I still have problems writing on checks. on the other hand spring is getting closer every day. on the gripping hand i'm falling behind on my projects as time passes faster than i would like.
walked through the back 20 acres yesterday with a couple forestry experts, gave me pretty good advice I need to write it up for the rest of the family. essentially harvest the alder as needed for spending money, maybe replant, but everywhere the earth is disturbed by logging needs to be managed for an indeterminate number of years later to keep invasive species from keeping natural replacement trees getting established. and I need to get a new chainsaw.

Dreary, rainy and drab out. Just like every other day this month. I am getting tired of this.

Well, that was a sweet weekend. Portland is definitely a foodie city, the airport Embassy Suites has a great pool and jacuzzi, the movie Arrival was a total winner. The only disappointment was a three piece called Blue Prairie, named after the Sons of the Pioneers song, who tried to recreate that genre of music. Only problem was they couldn't sing or play there instruments very well. All in all a wonderful and enjoyable weekend with my honey.

Third day of the crud. I have not been sick for a long time. Forgot how much it sucks. I think this is the one where the cough lasts six weeks.
