2nd May is Universal Understanding Day. That's nice I guess. But I love august 13 holidays it's more funnier. |

At 9 this morning , Darie and I meet with the Cal STRS retirement counselor to determine what I will be making come August 1st. We got a 2.5% raise this year, and a Golden Handshake was offered after about 15 years because our district had a dozen or more teachers at 4 campuses pulling in 80-90k in salary.
I couldn't make it another year so I am taking the handshake and getting out a year early.
29 years in public education plus 6 in Montessori get me a decent pension and a modest social security amount that will pay for Medicare. The school district will cover my medical,dental, and vision until I am 65, just 3.3 years away.
I lose about 35-40% of what I get now, but I never have to try and teach 5th graders who read at a 3rd grade level, don't know math facts without fingers, can't write a coherent paragraph with proper grammar, capitalization, or punctuation, and seem to live on hot Cheetos and Takis.

Something has been roaming around outside the back of our house the last few nights. Not javelina, because it either goes over the chain link fence or through the gap between the fence and the gate or through the bars in the other gate. Anyway, security lights turn on in the middle of the night, "dog" alarm goes off. Last night we got up and dressed and investigated. Saw nothing. So Mr. H deactivated the light that shines through our bedroom windows. His theory was a malfunctioning motion sensor on the light. Mine is a fox, since a malfunctioning motion sensor wouldn't set off the alarm or another light. But the light didn't bother us anymore.
Hauling guitar and equipment to an assisted living place to play and sing with my chorus this morning. Trip to Tucson tomorrow for a visit to Mr. H's regular ophthalmologist (no shot in the eye).

Sun's out, it's 70-something with a breeze so a good drying day. Therefore, I'm pressure washing the back porch which will make it a lot more pleasant without the pollen all over everything. Of course, I'm about 2/3 done and ran out of soap so I'm off to ACE to get more. Tomorrow is senior citizen 10% off day but I can't wait and just want to get this done.
