Good Morning Good People
Another perfect summer morning. Didn't work yesterday at my paid employment. We took a hike through the Lake Michigan dunes and along the beach (beach crowded, north trail wasn't) followed by excellent burgers at a bar in a beach town. Only downside was waiting an hour and a half for a table at said bar.
Hanging out with Mizz Lola this morning, office work this afternoon.
Have a fine summer Sunday one and all.

Beautiful day, think I'll drive to Peoria. Think I'll chow down with Dub/Joy in Iowa City. Think I'll try not to get any speeding tickets.

Good morning. It was 65 here this morning so I went looking for my Winter coat.
Actually I took advantage of the cool and trimmed an overgrown bush next to the quilt studio. Now I just need to go clean up the trimmings. Feels like work.
Happy Sunday, the sun is out and things are drying.

Another day in paradise. Beautiful morning on the big lake. One good thing about all these dogs is that I rarely miss a sunrise. Helen's little beauty queen won almost all of her events yesterday and is now, officially, our little champion. Here's to Bounce and lots of valuable little puppies! This morning Bounce is competing again and on her way to being a grand champion, we hope. My wife is ecstatic.

Flying home to MN today; vacation has been fun but I'm really looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight.
Melissa is staying back for another couple days to tend to her family stuff.
The airline waived all the flight-change fees due to the bereavement situation, so to change all 3 flights the total fare difference is under $200, so that's doable. (But holy cow vacay gets expensive once you tally food, gas, tolls, bling for Luke on top of the flights and car rental and hotels.)

Morning
83F/28C Mostly sunny.
A little shopping and then shop time. I may start string winders today, at least wood selection. I have Sepele, Walnut, Granidillo, Brazilian, Wenge and Maple. The least interesting, grain wise, is the Maple and Walnut and I may not use those at this time. I have a fairly large hunk of Brazilian and folks seem to prefer it so I will use that for sure. Grannidillo looks a lot like Brazilian. Wenge has that stark green and black contrast, makes very handsome string winders. Sepele looks like Mahogany but it's harder and a bit more golden colored, has a nice glow to it. As always making these winders is a long process and I usually lose at least 30% due to grain run out or mistakes on my part. Last years Maple Burl winders were a good example, I probably rejected 60% of them as too likely to break and even some of the ones that I though would pass broke under enough pressure. If you think you have one of those send it to me or bring it to IJ and I will gladly replace it. I want the handle back, that's the costly part of the winder, the head is the time consuming part.
41 Days to IJ.

My wife wants a clear view of Pie Island out in Lake Superior so I've been taking some trees down every day for the last several and it's hot, sweaty and if you're not careful, dangerous work. I have nothing but respect for people who used to work in the bush for a living. Below is the view from our place if you walk to the end of the dock. Basically the backside where you can't see the pie.

Made it to Peoria, 450 miles in eight hours, with an hourlong stop in Iowa City to feast with JoyDub, just great to see them. Time went too fast, though.
Sure is nice to fill up a car and be able to drive such distances w/o having to stop for fuel. I think I could have gone another 100, actually, but I had a room reserved here, and it's time to relax.

I hope that everyone had good ones! Fiddlerina and I had a good one indeed having been favored with a visit from Mr. Hammond hisownself. We had a great midday meal of barbecue at Iowa City's Jimmy Jacks eaten outside “on the veranda” as it were. It was very great to see him. Alas, no guitars were played nor fiddles bowed.

Dub, as an aside, I have my room reserved at CCI. I'll be getting there Thursday, dinner time? Driving over from Princeton, KY, home of Eddie, Penny and Alonzo. Pretty sure I'll be traveling with Ray Chesna, Swannanoa and occasional adventuring buddy. You'll enjoy him as well.
