My gas powered Toro has been really great for about 30 years. One of my best purchases ever. But it is tired. I do not see why I should bother fooling with it or even messing with gas any more though. So I went battery powered. No more keeping gas on hand, spilling gas while refueling, or checking or changing oil. No more sweaty ear muffs. I got one of these today: It is quite, works great for the small amount of grass I have to cut, and should always start. Also, it has lights, so, I can mow in the dark!!!

Nice David. I think ice got too much yard for a battery powered unit, plus the back yard is on a bit of a grade. The new heavy duty Honda is nice, and works well for me.

I had one. Worst lawn mower I ever owned. It really depends on how much lawn you have whether the job will be done on one charge. Fortunately, Sears took it back and we bought a gas mower. Similar experience with electric weed whacker, electric chain saw etc. Good for little jobs but not good for much. I wanted to like and use them but have had no luck with them. Doesn't do much to instill confidence in the (near) future of electric cars. Good for a drive to the corner store and back? I know ... so far. I do want them to work but they have to work.

Do you have to wrap the rope with the handle and knot around the flywheel or does it have a retractable pull cord? I've heard that some of the newer ones have that handy retractable thing. I'd love to get one myself. Mine almost never starts on the first pull and I'm forever setting the rope aside after starting and then forgetting to retrieve it.

Not going to happen any time soon up here, that's for sure. Unless you only want to clear off your stoop after a light dusting.

In other news, Canadians can expect to pay a lot more at the pump because we haven't enough refineries of our own and the troubles in Texas will be affecting us. The reason we don't have more refineries is because the future is so close we don't need them. Heh.

I had an electric mower once. By the time I got rid of it the cord had more patches than I could count. When my grandmother died my father got it and it had run over the cord a few times. He had it for a little while and ran over the cord a few more times. I had it for about a year and it did a good job on the grass but that running over the cord was a bitch.

Nice David. I think ice got too much yard for a battery powered unit, plus the back yard is on a bit of a grade. The new heavy duty Honda is nice, and works well for me. Mike Yes Mike, battery power will not handle big jobs. Mine can run an hour on a charge. I can mow my lawn, when it is at its highest growth/thickest, in about 30 minutes or less. I have way less than a 1/4 acre to mow, which is what Consumer Reports says this is capable of handling on a single charge. Of course, you can buy more batteries if you need to run longer. The same battery works in their chain saw and string trimmer, but I do not need those tools now. It apparently will not do well if you have much to mow on a 15% grade, nor more than a 1/4 acre. Just the wrong tool for the job. It will not handle the jobs, larger than my yard, that most gas mowers could. It is just a matter of getting the least hassle tool for the job you have to do. For instance, I now have a corded electric saw. I used to cut wood as a summer job, and I used to burn wood and would have laughed at the notion of using a corded or battery powered saw, but I just do not need gas power anymore. I can trim my little cherry and crepe myrtle trees with my corded electric Oregon chain saw. I do not burn wood. So why get a $600 Stihl gas saw? I just have to maintain my little yard. Whether electric ever surpasses gas powered tools does not matter here. That fact is, for me, electric now makes sense.
