Up, dark, rain, fried eggs, bacon toast. Dogs in front of the fire, snoring. All is right with the world, as long as you don't pay too much attention to what is going on.

Good but frosty morning, not the snowman, just frost. If I was talking about the snowman I would have capitalized his name. I say that because when I saw the frost this morning I got an earworm about the snowman and even considered playing the song but I don't have time to learn it before Wednesday.
I did play Christmas stuff for awhile yesterday and my fake nails are getting loose so I'll get them fixed up this morning.
Happy Saturday.

It's finally chilly out here in Flatlandia. Kathy and Robby are out in St Louis at a dance competition, so I've got Jules and the dog here with me. I'll have to get the dog out for a walk while Jules in at ballet. He' already raring to go. I, however, am not. I'll squeak in some practice today and then get some papers graded later.

The old quarter of Hanoi is pretty Blade Runner-ish (original, minus the rain).

The old quarter of Hanoi is pretty Blade Runner-ish (original, minus the rain). I loved Hanoi. I was last there in 1996, so I understand it has changed tremendously. Back in 1996, bicycles were all over the place, but have mostly been replaced by scooters and cars now. I'd love to go back and take a look, especially at the Citadel.

While running errands this morning, I drove past pretty Lake Como in St. Paul, which had a thin, almost invisible sheet of ice, with dozens of welfare geese sitting on it. It was amazing to watch a pair of honkers land, with major reverse-thrust flappage right before touchdown, and virtually no skidding. They fly goodly. Sunny and 50 today. A news story says we are warming rapidly here. www.climatecentral.org/gallery/maps/heres-where-winters-are-warming-the-mostToday's paper also says the Twin Cities ties with Nashville for the nation's lowest unemployment rate: 2.3 percent.

Just went outside and I think war has broken out in Iowa!! Oh, I forgot this is opening day of deer season. Guess I'll go up to the cabin and blow some leaves around. Yup! Shotgun season. I drove into town this morning for a Braille School Christmas party and living on gravel passed lots of pickups filled with people wearing orange, all waving at me in a good mood. I came home around 3:30 and saw some trucks parked by the corn crib. I had played Santa this afternoon and had taken the beard, wig and hat off, but dressed otherwise I stopped and told the guy standing by the fence with shotgun in hand waiting for the rest to flush the deer through, as I do every year, that this timber isn't a free-for-all. No mass hunting here, and no hunting without permission. We'll let a couple bow hunters in, but that's it. Those groups of 10 bozos who flush out the deer towards one guy isn't hunting, and I won't stand for it. I sat there in my Santa suit while he called his gang on his cell phone and they left. No stampeding deer on our property.
