It has been a while since I have seen a good movie. I just watched Blade Runner 2 - disappointing.
The first couple episodes of the TV series "Yellowstone" were good, but I suspect it will soon go down the typical path of predictable TV.
The last movie that I really enjoyed was "The Martian."

I don't know if it's on Netflix, but Like Water For Chocolate sticks out in my brain as an artsy kind of movie that didn't suck.
I don't really remember the details but I feel like I'm glad I saw it and it was different than movies I was used to seeing back in the day (Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Three Amigos, Crocodile Dundee, The Gods Must Be Crazy).
Actually, The Gods Must Be Crazy was a really cool movie that I'd also recommend - and will be sure to show to Luke at some point.
Thinking along those lines, I feel like my list of "he HAS to see these" would include:
Time Bandits Romancing the Stone The Princess Bride The Adventures of Baron von Munchausen The Neverending Story Dances with Wolves Last of the Mohicans (D.D.Lewis version) E.T. Maverick (both of them) Stand by Me Ghost Beetlejuice Top Gun Ferris Bueller's Day Off S.W. ep.4-6 The Green Mile Shawshank Redemption Road to Perdition 50 First Dates Steel Magnolias A League of Their Own All Quiet on the Western Front Hound of the Baskervilles Rear Window
And that's just off the top of my head.
What are your top-however-many?
(And, clearly many of those I listed are going to be seen by seven-year-old Luke! They're just some that hold some importance in my wholeness in some way.)

We watch so few movies that I imagine there are no movies I could recommend that T-Bob hasn’t already seen. We have access to Netflix, Prime, Hulu, and Vudu but it’s still difficult to find a movie that calls to us. We’ve either seen them (and they don’t warrant a second viewing) or they don’t seem like something we’d like.
Last night I noticed that Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure was on Hulu and Fiddlerina had never seen it so we watched it. She was justifiably leary but we both laughed out loud through the film. I know, it’s just stupid but it is funny in a slapstick way. I think any comedy that actually gets one laughing (a rarity these days) is a worthwhile movie. If I can laugh at a second or third viewing, it’s a gem. The naked gun movies are like that for me.

These days I’m more inclined to watch TV series than movies, most of which are on Netflix.
A couple weeks ago I watched one in Norwegian (or whatever the hell it was), followed by a series in French. Then I got a bright idea. I decided I’d start purposely watching Spanish TV series and movies as a way to learn Spanish. I told Haley about it. Since she already knew about the Norwegian and French series I had watched, she asked me if I learned either language.
Duh.
I scrapped my Spanish learning program.

If you like crime movies at all, and you haven’t seen Heat and The Departed, they’re two of the best ever. If you have even a passing interest in super heroes, Unbreakable is a genre-defying must. Just like movies about people and the trials of life? Grab your box of Kleenex and watch An Unmarried Man. Historical drama? Lincoln. The King’s Speech. War? Dunkirk.

We recorded Godspell and started to watch it last night. I thought I had seen it before. I know that I have the album around here somewhere. The first 15 minutes of the movie sucked. I assume that it didn't get any better. Maybe you had to watch it in the 70s and maybe you had to be stoned.

I didn't see Shane on any of those lists
"So you're Jack Wilson" "That's right, what's it to you, Shane" "I heard about you" "What did you hear, Shane"? "I heard you were a low down Yankee liar". "Prove it"
I get all misty eyed...

My all time favorite laugher is Slapshot. The best satire of hockey ever, or any sports movie period. What jocks do to get to the next level. Paul Newman and the Hansen brothers. Highest ratio of swear words to complete sentences you'll ever find, and each one is a hoot.

Have you seen Slapshot? It's pretty f*ing close.😊
PS, In Slapshot it's for humor. In Deadwood it's punctuation.
