Looking forward to after-work today, when Babzi and I will board the below vessel for an hourlong tour on the Mississippi north of downtown, including a visit to a great-blue-heron rookery. Cool thing is that you are welcome to bring whatever food and drink you wish aboard. And it's solar/electric powered, so quiet and no fumes. A three hour tour?

Well, the boat cruise was delightful, sublime. Turns out we were the only sign-ups for that time slot, but Capt. Cory cut us a deal and we paid only $15 a head for the hourlong trip. As soon as we set out, I felt BP levels falling, as the boat is totally silent and slow and most of the riverfront is lush with vegetation. We saw nothing more exotic in terms of wildlife initially than some sunning turtles and Canada geese, but when we reached the heron rookery, it was a sight to behold. At least a dozen nests high in trees on an island, and seeing these guys flying, with their 6-foot wingspans, is truly breathtaking. (Not my photo, nor from today, but from the Mpls rookery.) The return trip was even more amazing, with all this glorious nature on the riverbanks, with the occasional industrial enterprise, and the Mpls. skyline, particularly attractive from the north and low on the river, in the distance.
