Good morning ☀️
I hope this is going to be a great day. Thursday was a screwed up my day. It’s always to sleep then I have another day.
I can practice piano, walk around, and smile (the Cheshire Cat)

Boo!
Lots of rain today, but the dog and I did get out for a 25min walk.
Meeting two arriving daughters (and granddaughter) at the station tomorrow at noon, I'm pretty excited.

So after today, I have three days off, then three days of work, then three days off again. A nice stretch, plus I'll prolly take off early today; I have a lot of time off to use up and Fridays are as close as we get to a slow day around here.
After work yesterday, I descended into the bowels of hipsterhood, Mpls' North Loop neighborhood, to shop for some new eyeglasses at Warby Parker. I told the nice young lady who waited on me that I was sorry that her jeans had ripped in a couple of places. They must not pay their employees very well. Anyhoo, after several minutes of trying on frames, I settled on a pair and they will be mailed to me within two weeks. Stylish and affordable -- $295 with progressive lenses, not bad.
I got the front yard cut last night just before the rain arrived, so that worked out dandy, then I invented and prepared a garlicky shrimp/asparagus/roasted pepper/corn salsa dish that was really tasty.
Here endeth today's Report From Bachelorville.

Good morning.
Looks like fall here. Must have had a storm last night because there are leaves all over the place, many in the pool. I'll have to work on that. I should mow but everything's wet and more storms are in the afternoon forecast so mowing may not happen. The kid next door mowed their place yesterday for the third time this week. Yes, the weeds are growing but not that much.
Right thumb still hasn't healed from the blister at the open mic weeks ago so I haven't been able to play. Every time it gets close, I try to ply and break the skin again. I suspect old age is catching up with me.
Last of August. Hope September is better.

After work yesterday, I [went] to shop for some new eyeglasses at Warby Parker. … Stylish and affordable -- $295 with progressive lenses, not bad. Consumer Reports and others have recommended Costco for eyeglasses. I bought my last eyeglasses there and love them. Quality, style, service, and a great price (less than half of your cost). I’m totally sold. The savings on eyeglasses alone makes membership worthwhile. No more $400 eyeglasses from my doctor’s eye clinic.

Preparations for the upcoming trip to Vinton begin in earnest today. Car is road ready, packing list is almost complete. Finally getting somewhat familiar with the new iPhone SE. As Barb has to work a 4 hour shift at the Kansas State Fair on that Saturday the 8th for the agency she works for, we will likely video the Happy Birthday on my phone, then I can send it at a better time. We'll make it work.

Worth $150 to me.

Happy Friday, Everyone!
My cleaning crew just left and the house is spotless. The sun is shining, temps in the low 80s. Perfect day to be alive and living in Wisconsin! 😁
My To Do list is long. Not sure which thing to tackle.
I think a nice cup of brew to contemplate such matters is in order. 😉
Have a wonderful day! ❤️

Christine drove in from Waco yesterday. In a few hours we trek east to Vancleave MS and Home of Grace to speak at their chapel service about the pain of loss from an OD.

God bless you both -- a beautiful example of putting your grief to a higher purpose. Its a big deal to us. This is the place Andrew was when he had an awakening and so much healing in his life. The change was incredible. We have his journal and poetry from this period and I will read some excerpts. As part of my talk I will sing the Pierce Pettis song God Believes in You. I had been working on it because I wanted to sing it to Andrew when we brought him home for Thanksgiving. I was in the den giving it the final touches when Nancy asked me to go and wake him up so he and Christine could go to the movies. That's when I found him.

Sniff.
Not much on the agenda today. We did get the mowing done yesterday. A team effort.
We've been using Zenni Optical for years. There are some similar sites, but I have no experience with them. A year ago I paid $89.90 plus $4.95 shipping for nice frames (at $15.95) plus progressive lenses with a UV blocker and anti-reflective coating. I have a strong prescription.
Since it's on-line, you have to have this information ready to input (in millimeters):
Bridge Lens width Frame width Temple length Lens height Pupil distance
Mr. H changes eyeglass prescriptions frequently due to his wet macular degeneration. He gets lined bifocals with wire frames and pays under $35 with shipping. His frames run around $10.
