As for all the #BelieveAllWomen stuff, we should ask Emmett Till what he thinks of that. I just have to ask my wife what she thinks of that. Quite the earful.

I don’t hold the Judge’s adolescent and early adulthood behavior as disqualifying at all assuming he grew out of it as did most of us.
If it turns out he did dry hump a 15 year old girl and exposed himself while severly intoxicated I would not consider that totally disqualifying assuming he grew out of it, admitted it could have happened, and apologized.
I do hold his attempts to evade questions on and unwillingness to honestly own up to youthful behavior which is a matter of record as a big concern. This could indicate He didn’t fully grow out of it.
They can do better. I wonder if Trump also knows that and his “despicable” comments on Ford last night were just a ruse to tip the Republican senators against confirmation so he can blame them. After all he has a very very large brain.
I am guessing the FBI will not turn up much new except that Kav was less than forthcoming about his behavior as a young man.

That's assuming he actually did it. Which given the new information from Ford's ex-boyfriend seems increasingly unlikely.

Even if he didn’t do the sexual assault stuff which is certainly possible, his unwillingness to own up to his documented youthful indiscretions with alcohol are concerning. That surprises me as the drinking stories and behavior that have emerged are pretty garden variety.

That surprises me as the drinking stories and behavior that have emerged are pretty garden variety. I'd put it like this, speaking as someone who's youthful indiscretions with alcohol pretty much track what we're hearing about Kavanaugh (and every other person currently in his 50's who was a young person in the early '80's...and I assume pretty much every young person ever): I have nothing to "own up" to. We drank. We partied. We goofed around. Kegs and red Solo cups were frequently involved. Sometimes it got a little out of hand. Sometimes we did things that in the light of day didn't turn out to be such a hot idea. Stupid behavior was the norm. Once in a while, a scuffle would break out and just as quickly end. Occasionally, we'd end up at a car wash trying to vacuum the stench of vomit out of mom's car. Etc, etc, etc. I have nothing to "own up" to, and I'm not sorry for any of it.

Maybe, just maybe, there really are no indiscretions.

He is on record with the opinion that sitting presidents should not be investigated or indicted. He was nominated for the SCOTUS by a president whose administration is under investigation, with multiple felony indictments, confessions and convictions. His behavior as an adolescent is small change.

He is petrified to be honest about doing stuff he didn’t remember because that would automatically make the sexual allegations a possibility. Give me a break, we all did stuff we didn’t remember under the influence at that age. (Except maybe Russ ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) ) Maybe I should have said honest rather than “own up”. Jeff you were honest, Kav was evasive and that may be an issue when the FBI interviews are complete.

Well, Trump doesn't drink and y'all hate him anyway so what difference does it really make, to quote Hillary?

Well, Trump doesn't drink and y'all hate him anyway so what difference does it really make, to quote Hillary? I agree. We should all be showing a little more respect for the self-made successful businessman who was given nothing, other than a paltry $413 million. Through nothing more than sheer determination, ruthlessness, lawlessness, deception, fraud, racism, bigotry, misogyny, and his incredibly big brain, he was able to turn that $413 million into $100 million.

"The president has long sold himself as a self-made billionaire, but a Times investigation found that he received at least $413 million in today’s dollars"
Again, the NY Times putting an editorial in their news section. It wasn't 413 million. It wasn't. "in today's dollars" isn't the same thing.
I'd be interested in seeing how Chesapeake would have edited that one.

I think it's quite demeaning to women to assume that they would have no doubts about Dr Ford's credibility. Women cannot have independent thoughts? Oh yeah, "women's issues". Women are ______. All of them. Just like black people are ______. All of them. Identity politics just might have a weakness. Group attribution. The fundamental building block of bigotry. And you're offended at my observation above? I'm offended that you assume that because I might doubt Dr Ford's narrative that I think women should shut up when victimized. You have a point, up to a point. I agree with what you stated. However, altar boys aside, women have a common concern that is uniquely theirs. They modify their behavior in dozens of different ways to prevent unwanted attention, advances and assaults from men. While I get what you’re saying, and I’d be offended too if anyone actually made the accusation in your last sentence, I can also see why women might side with Dr Ford as their default position.

I can also see why women might side with Dr Ford as their default position. But you can't see the irony in your assertion? Because you mean women well, you don't see that you are still thinking for them.

Because you mean women well, you don't see that you are still thinking for them. No, I’m not. They’re the experts on what they think. I’m just saying I can understand those who, with no better information than we all have, default to Dr Ford’s side. And to be fair, I can also understand why some women default to Kavanaugh’s side. I think it’s a mistake to put somebody else’s politics* before all else, but it’s a free country and people think what they like. * "Somebody else’s politics" meaning that none of us has any stake in this. Trump stands to benefit personally, and of course Kavanaugh stands to benefit personally. But the rest of us get nothing that another cookie cutter conservative nominee couldn’t do.

I certainly agree that that is the sort of substantive discussion that should be taking place. Hey, I tried being reasonable and analytical back around page 4. (BTW, when was young, I didn't need drink to do or say things that now make my toes curl. And no, I'm not going to get specific. But then, I'm not looking for high office, either. Though I could use some help decluttering the one I have.)
