I think it is both "altruistic sharing or egotistical self aggrandizement," at least it is for me, on those rare occasions when my playing gives pleasure to anyone. I like to make others happy and I have an ego that likes to get stroked. I also like the music that I play, so I think that there is a third factor: My own music gives me pleasure.
