On Common Ground: Economic Inequality & the Housing Crisis
It’s not news anymore: the Bay Area has a housing crisis in need of urgent action. A housing shortage, plus rising rents and stagnant wages, are leaving more and more people vulnerable to homelessness. The crisis has prompted leaders from every sector--private companies, philanthropy, government, think tanks and community organizations--to design proposals, sponsor bills and launch coalitions for tackling the issue. Can these solutions outpace the problem, and the income inequality at its core?

There’s 18 billionaires in the bay area alone, and 125k + millionaires. There are over a million millionaires in the state of CA. But get this: one in three people on welfare in the USA live in California. Fucking incredible, really; CA’s income inequality approaches the third world, Bonus, you might like this article, t-bob: christarzanclemens.com/2014/10/home-sweet-honda/

There's a lot more on the article.
As I transition into the next stages of my life, I consider my options. I lived couches, hostels, shelters, a park bench, friends. When I leave my belonging with a another place and my items are almost gone. So now..... I can live a camper for one year or two years AND I live a low-income house with a lease. (The Northern California has new strict housing - I had a low Waiting List number)

I hear about this from a daughter who lives in the area, Bob. Too many people want to live there. The law of supply and demand responds accordingly.

And renters have to compete with what an owner can get for the same unit on airbnb.
