A couple shots from a few days ago for the farmer/gardener types. The first is a smallish machine since it's a small 'field', they're usually 2-3 times that size. The starts are done on the trays, then transplanted when they're big enough. Last is doing it by hand, the old way--here they're just filling in missed places (doesn't happen in bigger fields).

Cold today with a freeze warning for tonight. It is supposed to hit 26 overnight. Seems a bit crazy. At this rate Minnesotans will be wearing union suits until September instead of Aug 31st like they usually do.

Mid 80s forecast here. Warmest day of the year so far. I mowed the lawn yesterday. I’ll edge it today, gotta pace out my chores so I don’t get too busy. 😂

Waiting for the package from Philly Lutiers to arrive so I can clean up my frets and change strings.

There will be a fly over by the Oregon National Guard in F-16s 15s to show support for health care providers this morning.

And I just learned that Soup Plantation/Sweet Tomatoes is permanently closing all their restaurants as buffets are not allowed in post Covid 19 world. Sadness.

Nothing new to report here.

Good morning. I arrived at one of our desert trails at 5:45, just as the sun was rising, and got the last legal parking spot. Because of our hot spell and the virus, a lot of us are having the same idea. It was about 65 degrees and very pleasant. Some of the palo verde trees are still blooming and the saguaros are starting to flower.

I felt crummy on Tuesday and Wednesday and couldn't figure out why. Yesterday it occurred to me that I'd been doing a lot outside during unusually hot weather and might be dehydrated, so I chugged water all day. By the end of the day I felt fine. You really have to keep an eye on staying hydrated here.

It is chilly but sunny here. I am taking the day off, my fifth consecutive three-day weekend, "thanks" to my unpaid furlough days. I plan to drown my sorrows shortly by getting into my motorcar and driving to Culver's, where I shall order a root beer float, a fish sammich and a pot roast dinner (for later). I shall then drive to nearby Lake Gervais, park in a lakeside lot, slowly consume my root beer float and sammich, watch the waterfowl and contemplate the mysteries of our existence, all the while being grateful for my lot in life, as imperfect as it might be.

Good morning

A little better night's sleep but only slightly.

DaWife and I just got back from our Doc's appointments. She has a shoulder problem, maybe rotor cuff, and I had labs work. They are concerned about my sleep problems and think it may be post traumatic stress. I can believe that because so far 2020 has been pretty stressful. Really like our little clinic.

Today I will exercise, rest and cook, thick bone in pork chops with onion gravy, mashed taters and veggies.

I am apparently at the epicenter of the Japanese beetle infestation. The Oregon Dept of Agriculture is applying Acelepryn G granules on our yard today.

I have never noticed one of the critters. We are taking the dogs to the beach for a couple days to keep them away for the pesticide. It will give me time to rehearse my lines for my son's upcoming May 15 nuptials. I have become a minister through the Universal Life Church for the occasion. Soon to be DIL will be a wonderful addition to the family.

The wedding was originally planned to occur in Gibraltar, Covid scrubbed that plan. So now it will be on the Oregon beach.

Sorry about the beetles. Those are nasty. They can kill an ornamental tree in nothing flat. We had them a few years ago down in Tiffin. After doing some research I bought some traps. I’d catch literally thousands of them every day. Probably a five gallon bucket full every day for a while. And they smell really bad. We didn’t use any insecticide though.
