measures or bar lines, I can’t remember a word. It’s either ageism or the 60s ‘medical’ Measures are sometimes referred to as bars as in 8 to the bar for x/8 time signatures.

All my music sheets and books are in storage or I had to let it go. Maybe I’ll send a couple classical pieces as soon as my new keyboard/piano with stand, bench, pedal, & light. I’m much better a classical pianist . I did some standing up on my keyboard. I’m not rock n roll musician
Thanks everybody

This second one got me wondering about lead-ins. On the one hand the first line is numbered as having four measures, but then to the right '5' is and-written in. I started wondering about the history of that, and how notations might have dealt with those notes. Some minor googling got me to: anacrusis, not only in music*. And counting off when nothing's there. *will explore later if anacrusis in poetry has some connection/relation to stress-timing in language (vs syllable timing).

Lead-in....The "5" is the bar. One eight note and one quarter note ...anacrusis The last "5" is last bar.... the three bars are looooong "fermata" This are 25 bars 25 1/4 bars on the paper JDD2 Thank you for the website... anacrusis

I might try and smuggle "anacrusis" into a sentence when I see my brother tomorrow. I like to exercise his eyebrow muscles.
