I've still never signed up for facepalm, tho their cookies are there when I purge those. So tracking pixels, or something like that.

Bob--sorry! I've never signed up for facebook. (My wife shows me something one of my sister's posts once a month or so.) Now for the shitty part: Facebook not only tracks you when you visit a facebook page, it also tracks you by other means. One of those other means is called a tracking pixel. www.zdnet.com/article/spy-pixels-in-emails-to-track-recipient-activity-are-now-an-endemic-privacy-concern/There are some other web tricks, whereby they can check what content you've looked at, for how long, etc. Facebook is that main culprit, google is probably second, tho there are others in the shadows. Europe got a good start with their privacy rules--GDPR: gdpr.eu/what-is-gdpr/ But in my opinion, that's only a start, and it needs to be developed a lot more. So every other day or so, I purge my cookies. By that I mean that I go into the privacy setting on my main browser and delete almost all the cookies. There's an option there to "Remove All", but I keep about a half dozen so that on those sites I don't have to log in again. (e.g., If you delete the proboards cookie, you have to log in again when you come back.) People think china is weird, that everyone there is under constant surveillance, and yes, that is one kind of surveillance society. The other kind of surveillance society is "surveillance capitalism": en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surveillance_capitalism
