Hard to believe but I might be becoming a fan of of our forty-third president… as a painter that is. Recent articles indicate he has made considerable progress along these lines.
Thoughts?

Not if it involves climbing a ladder. (GWB is close to my age, and I'm cautious even standing on a chair.)
The portraits, by the way, aren't half bad--in the ones I've seen, I recognize the faces, and that's not easy to do even when working from photos. Glad to see he has a harmless hobby.

You know, GWB might not have been the brightest bulb in the presidential chandelier, but I think anyone would have to appreciate his bearing and demeanor after witnessing the last few years of politics.
And those portraits look pretty good to me.

I always thought he was a decent and basically honest human being. He has shown that post-office.
He got bad advice. I like his painting.

Clockwise, from top: Mary Chapin-Carpenter, Redd Fox, Cher, Chris Rock, guy at the bus depot, Elaine Chao, John McEnroe. How'd I do?

Here is Dwight D. Eisenhower's painting of Churchill from 1955.

His book of portraits is laced with his thoughts on immigration reform, and I like what he has to say on that subject: www.npr.org/2021/04/21/989010060/george-w-bush-lends-his-voice-to-immigrants-in-out-of-many-one

And those portraits look pretty good to me. I voted for the dude, first time around. He seems like a very decent man. Not so much the cabinet he chose to lead him around by the nose. But being a "decent man" is not paramount to being an effective President. Carter comes to mind. Hardly has there ever been a nicer man in the office. His record was not stellar.
