My old dog Dante left the planet. It’s been a very difficult day He got a stroke - he could only walk on the left. And his right eye was up & down. His brain isn’t working very well and he knew it was time for him to leave.
He was a 16 old dog - Husky Malamute.
I had to go to veterinary ER. It was a “hospice”. My dog relaxing in a little sheep carpet. He was with his friends. He was trying to walk. But at least you could see his love for his companions. He was still happy just before he left doggy heaven. I were there - my son & his wife. (Even my ex-wife was there. Ugh!)
It was my friend companion/partner for five year. 2007-2012. Then my son was a companion for eight years. 2013-2021 I had to find my dog at my son’s apartment or my ex-wife’s house. Sometimes Dante was in Tacoma in two years. And I never saw him. I actually I went to the Tacoma on the plane just to see the dog. Actually it was Thanksgiving and a College Graduation for my son.
He really was a partner/companion.
I wanted Dante to live with me. I moved so many times and most people couldn’t deal with large dog.
I never saw him at all when I was in Mexico for a year. There was a reason that I was there in Mexico. And I always thought about him.
My son Graham - He loved that dog. 13 to 30. It’s like as the beginning of his adolescence & adulthood life. He having huge difficulty with the grief as well.
And I always think about all of the great memories. I’m trying to find videos and pictures. I’ll probably put a large collage in my apartment.

Sorry to see this, Bob. A neighbor had to have her dog put down yesterday. Sometimes dogs can mean as much to us as people.

Oh man. I'm really sorry to hear this, Bob. I do remember keeping up with Dante's escapades over the years. His loss is a hard thing for you, and I wish you the best as you work through it. A pet is more than a pet, and Dante was a huge loss.
