Hogs are slopped. Chickens are fed. Cows are milked. Goose is cooked. Pull on your Osh Kosh B’Gosh denims, your Cabela Kiltie 2.0 boots, and get out into the fields a’weeding like a good Soundhoolian, ya heah? Careful of them ticks.

Sitting in front of our campfire drinking coffee. Had an exciting day yesterday, got stung on the neck by a wasp, and bitten on my finger by a spider. Girls are out skiing, it's 7:55 a.m.

Getting much rain where you are, Bill? Nope, it's so dry all the fish have ticks. We oughta organize a bucket brigade from your swamp to my yard.

Good morning. I've learned to embrace my inner hick. It'll be about 81-101 and cloudy here. Perfect weather for smoking a chicken.
Paleo, try to have a safer day than yesterday.

Your mention yesterday of intending to make chicken inspired me to buy and roast one yesterday. I tell ya, there are few joys in a senior bachelor's life quite like the rush of opening the fridge and beholding that clear Pyrex dish filled with golden-brown chicken ready for ripping apart and scarfing over the sink.

Went to a house concert last night. Justin Roth, a 30 something originally from Stillwater but now Fort Collins CO. Any of you twin citians know him?
Skinny high energy guy with a Taylor, three Kyser capos on the headstock, mostly open tunings, tapping, rhythmic, percussive, but good with traditional folky fingerstyle and flatpick.
He was very good, really a talented player, huge voice, and although by default a sappy writer he had several really witty songs. One was about what to say to young kids when they ask about the strange noises coming out of mommy and daddy’s bedroom at night. Another was about kids using a dead horse for a trampoline.
When I saw the Taylor sitting there with three capos on the headstock and he started with a percussive tapping open tuning instrumental I thought it would be a long night but he was great.

Good Morning Good People
A pleasant summer morning that will be pleasanter if we get some more sun.
Still transitioning to retirement, trying to extricate myself from the company and the environmental biz. If it wasn't for a few clients and projects that I like, I woulda walked months ago. One of my current projects is a parcel of industrial wasteland on a lake in northern Michigan that is being redeveloped as a public park.
I noted the discussion in yesterday's daily about $100,000 ski boats and $25,000 motorcycles. I took a glance at the Elderly Instruments website. The highest priced new Martin is $10,500, Collings $6,300, Taylor $6,000, Breedlove $5,300. This puts our guitar habits into perspective, in comparison to the kinds of toys other guys buy. One could buy a fleet of fine guitars for the price of a single motorcycle or boat. Or if you want a single guitar, $25,000 would get you a pre-war Martin loaded with mojo.

Good morning My girls are gone and the people finder app on my phone says they are almost to Mille Lacs. Time to get dressed and head down to my shop. EDIT: As I thought they would, they stopped in Garrison for breakfast at Micky D's . Garrison on Mille Lacs is where they turn off main highways and take County roads for the last half of the trip. EDIT II: I don't think they stopped for breakfast because they just turned on to Co Rd 1 in Emily, MN for the last 5 miles to Fifty Lakes and Uncle Bill's. I don't think they stopped because they are making really good time and Grandma DOES NOT let the girls eat in her car. I have leather seats so I don't overly worry about it but Cheri has a lease car with cloth seats.

I'm aware of this guy, we played at some of the same coffeeshop/restaurant spots but never on the same date or anything. I think he later managed to even play in Europe for a while.

I'm making my second batch of Char Siu in a week.. Chinese Roast Pork first batch (6 pounds) pork tenderloin were gone in no time. This time 10 pounds of pork shoulder. I like more fat on it. Eat as is or use in stir fry or in fried rice or wonton soup. Freezes great.

I had a great day yesterday. I was watering my flower beds out front and twice people walking by stopped and told me how much they appreciated my beautiful flower beds. Then, while I was working on extricating a dastardly thistle, I heard, "Hey, Buddy! Hello!". I turned and there was a fellow in an old Chevy pickup stopped on the street. "Hey, I just wanted to tell you, you have the best damn looking flower beds in this town and I've been all over it!"
That made it the third time this year someone has stopped on the street, rolled down their window, and hollered a flower compliment/thank you out the window (walker compliments are common, but the car stoppings are special). One guy came by with his parents and said he had to show them the "Flower House".

I'm in a travel trailer in Lakewood.
Last nights dinner was grilled cheese with Habañero peppers and diced chicken with French fries and a beer. Surprisingly satisfying at the backyard picnic table with family
