I had a great day yesterday. I was watering my flower beds out front and twice people walking by stopped and told me how much they appreciated my beautiful flower beds. Then, while I was working on extricating a dastardly thistle, I heard, "Hey, Buddy! Hello!". I turned and there was a fellow in an old Chevy pickup stopped on the street. "Hey, I just wanted to tell you, you have the best damn looking flower beds in this town and I've been all over it!" That made it the third time this year someone has stopped on the street, rolled down their window, and hollered a flower compliment/thank you out the window (walker compliments are common, but the car stoppings are special). One guy came by with his parents and said he had to show them the "Flower House". PHOTOS, PLEASE! I have them on my phone. I can send them to email addresses. But, I don't know how to get them off my phone and onto this forum.

Good Morning Good People I noted the discussion in yesterday's daily about $100,000 ski boats and $25,000 motorcycles. I took a glance at the Elderly Instruments website. The highest priced new Martin is $10,500, Collings $6,300, Taylor $6,000, Breedlove $5,300. This puts our guitar habits into perspective, in comparison to the kinds of toys other guys buy. One could buy a fleet of fine guitars for the price of a single motorcycle or boat. Or if you want a single guitar, $25,000 would get you a pre-war Martin loaded with mojo. Being the cheapskate I am, I’ll note that for the $25k my neighbor spent on his new motorcycle, I could buy 4 of mine and still have $3k left over for a nice guitar. (which is more than I’ve ever spent on a guitar either). But I’m a cheapskate.

I tell ya, there are few joys in a senior bachelor's life quite like the rush of opening the fridge and beholding that clear Pyrex dish filled with golden-brown chicken ready for ripping apart and scarfing over the sink. That's a little bit sad. 😥

Went to a house concert last night. Justin Roth, a 30 something originally from Stillwater but now Fort Collins CO. Any of you twin citians know him? Skinny high energy guy with a Taylor, three Kyser capos on the headstock, mostly open tunings, tapping, rhythmic, percussive, but good with traditional folky fingerstyle and flatpick. He was very good, really a talented player, huge voice, and although by default a sappy writer he had several really witty songs. One was about what to say to young kids when they ask about the strange noises coming out of mommy and daddy’s bedroom at night. Another was about kids using a dead horse for a trampoline. When I saw the Taylor sitting there with three capos on the headstock and he started with a percussive tapping open tuning instrumental I thought it would be a long night but he was great. The trampoline tune was written by someone named Christopher Smith, turns out.

Made it to Lansing last night through construction and driving rain. This morning while in the shower I pondered whether or not I had packed socks to wear to the memorial service, only to realize I had not. I did not pack shoes, either - I just had the Birks I wore in the car. So, this morning featured a quick emergency shopping trip.
The trip to Elderly was nice - my favorite instrument might have been a banjo (too expensive for my tastes and ability).
It turns out Sweetwater is open on Sundays, so I might have the opportunity to stop by and check out the Guild baritone on the way home tomorrow.

Hey John, been there🙂
A while back I was in western NE for a quick ranch visit and got word a close friend had died in Omaha. All I had with me was a couple of tee shirts, shorts, and a pair of jeans.
I drove to Omaha and went to Von Maur and said to the guy in men’s “dress me for a funeral”.
I showed up in my new outfit feeling pretty snappy only to realize when the day was done I had forgotten to cut the price tag off the sleeve of the sport coat.

You must have gotten a good deal on your Goodall. $2,600. Sold it for $1,800. Took a loss on it in the end.

Barb & I flew to Las Vegas once and when I got there I had no underwear or socks. That’s not a handicap for a lot of people in Las Vegas, but I felt the need to go out and buy some. I once had to buy a suit, shirt, and shoes in Vancouver, BC, because what I had packed in a nice bag stayed behind. I needed the suit for a banquet we had to attend. I bought it at a big department store downtown but I can’t recall the name.

“Using a dead horse for a trampoline?”
Most folks just kick’em.
Spent the day in Barb’s home town of Fowler, attending their annual Threshing Day. We lived there for 30+ years. It was HOT !!! I used to hold a sizeable jam in front of our house that weekend.

They wanted many dollars.
