We are veging out today. Long hours of prep with a bassist friend for two shows yesterday at the Backbone Bluegrass Festival near Strawberry Point, IA. Blistering heat plus high humidity. We didn't hang around but left right after our second show. Worried there might be people from Missouri.

Too bad you can’t attend the Olympics. The women’s road race was interesting. No race radios allowed and the first chase group didn’t know the winner was up the road solo. Silver medalist thought she won. I watched the second half of the men's road race on a local feed, but was busy w/other stuff yesterday. With no radio coaching, I'd've expected some people posted along the way with signs or shout outs.

I watched the women's race on a delay. It's really a shame the Dutch team didn't realize the Austrian broke away.

Finally had a break in the rain and started our walk at 2:30 this afternoon. Didn't get home until 4:00 because we watched a swiftwater rescue. Two kayakers decided that the Rillito River looked like fun, as it was overflowing its banks with a current at maybe 15 mph. One of the kayakers got himself out. The other had to cling to some branches on a sandbar for a long time before the fire department got there. Then waited longer for the sheriff's helicopter to come and pull him out. Being as the scene was near the access to the multiuse path from the neighborhood next to ours, we directed some emergency vehicles in before going back to watch the rescue.
Forrest Gump was right.

Worried there might be people from Missouri. I'm not sure what the map is supposed to show, but, having lived there for 15 years, Sue and I are in constant fear of there being people from Missouri here.
I know that there are people on the board with real problems, but I haven't been posting much lately do to problems (which in the grand scheme of things are small) that have been ganging up on me in a real cluster these last couple of weeks. It seems that, while waiting for the other shoe to drop, all sorts of shoes began dropping and I can't get out of their way.
I'd love to get back to plain old, trapped in the house with everything cancelled due to covid as an excuse to just sit in front of the TV and make the world go away. I'm having a real tough time just dealing with existence these days and need to reset some how. I'm just not sure how to get to the reset button. Maybe I need to learn another new song before the show on the 7th. I've had offers from others to come and play along with me on the 7th, but I feel like I'd just be embarrassing them and not just myself.
How about this song:

Another day, another art fair. We cornered the art world ! Drove 45 minutes to the Geneva art fair and bought 2 paintings from a guy that (turns out) lives a mile from us. And one painting from a guy from Cedar Rapids. I can’t post photos direct from my phone. More to follow later. Lovely day. (Kinda hot). Asked for a discount while “bartering” and got $500 off on everything. There was some REALLY nice stuff there, but out of our price range. I really wanted to support the local guy. I really like his stuff. And it’s reasonably priced for the size and effort of the works. PS - There was a woman selling 3’x3’ canvases of stark off-white or gray or pale blue paint for $3k each. - Really ? ? ? by John Chehak from Cedar Rapids By Joe Ruck from Rolling Meadows, Il. (Practically a neighbor) Also by Joe Ruck Joe Ruck paints mostly with rollers he says. Interesting technic. Gives a texture that is semi-realist/semi-abstract. So is John Chehak's technic. Abstract, yet representational. We took them home and mounted them. They look great. The Chehak goes above a black buffet on a beige wall. It gives color to the room while fitting in nicely with the furniture and decor. The big Ruck is in the Great Room next to a window looking out at garden and trees. The winter scene is in the first floor bath on a dark blue/green wall matching one of the colors in the dark forest. We did good. First time we've ever bought REAL paintings. Everything else we have is poster art or photographs. Oh, and we bought a ceramic pie plate yesterday. They had a blue one in the back that matches our kitchen cabinets.

I watched the women's race on a delay. It's really a shame the Dutch team didn't realize the Austrian broke away. That was not that uncommon in days of yore before the riders were in constant radio contact with the team car and not wearing heart rate monitors and having telemetry on the bikes telling the coach how many watts the guy was putting out. It was a lot more interesting to me back then. I think in local amateur races it happened a lot more. No team cars or motorcycles with blackboards keeping the riders informed. An early flyer by one or two guys sometimes got forgotten if they got out of sight. I had the reverse happen in the Minnesota State Games road race around 1989. It was four ten mile laps. A guy and I broke away early and crossed the finish line so far ahead of the (admittedly weak) field that the officials thought we had been dropped and were at the back. We did succeed in convincing them.

Marshall, kudos to you for supporting regional artists, and I do love the paintings you chose, and I admire the creators' techniques.

Hope things get better, Joe. Paul Thorn is a favorite of mine. Creative and witty. Interesting background. He is the son of a preacher and was a pretty fair boxer, once having a nationally televised fight with Roberto Durãn.

The red show the most severe Delta COVID areas. I attempted to indicate above using the Greek letter delta. We sure hope things improve for you two.

I juried into that show for 2020 and when it was cancelled I was still assured a space for 2021. Too bad I couldn't hold my debts off long enough. I've heard good things about that show and wanted to try it.

It was a very good show (Geneva). Coulda used some Bauman Stoneware. There was not much in pottery. It was a big show, going for 4 blocks at least both sides of the street. Mostly hanging artwork. Also jewelry and sculpture. Good crowd.
The day before we hit the Glencoe and Glenview art fairs. Glencoe was very nice, but not as big as Geneva's show. Very good quality in Glencoe as well as Geneva. The Glenview fair was smaller and lower level. We did buy the pie plate in Glenview. There was a potter in Glencoe that did some lovely hand paint work on his pieces. He was sitting there with a brush doing detail work on a pot when we walked by.

Love that song, Joe. Hope you’re doing better. You still coming up end of August ? I better be or my son is going to be very upset that I missed his wedding. The wedding itself is on the 21st, I plan on being in town the Thursday before or possibly Wednesday.
