"Dodgers vs. Braves final score, 4-2 results: Eddie Rosario's HR, Tyler Matzek's relief work send Atlanta to World Series
Two names who have become synonymous with the Braves this postseason played hero on Saturday: Eddie Rosario and Tyler Matzek.
Responding to a freshly tied game in the bottom of the fourth inning, Rosario continued his hot hitting with a go-ahead three-run homer off Dodgers hurler Walker Buehler to put the Braves up for good. Then, in the seventh, when the Dodgers had the tying run in scoring position with no one out in a two-run game, Matzek came out of the bullpen and struck out three straight batters to strand the runners.
Matzek pitched a shutout eighth as well, Will Smith shut it down in the ninth, and the Braves punched their ticket to the World Series with a 4-2 win in Game 6 of the NLCS.
This will be the first trip to the Fall Classic for Atlanta since 1999. The Braves will face the American League champion Astros beginning Tuesday. Houston will have home-field advantage and host the first two games of the series.
The Braves' offense got it done twice in clutch situations Saturday night. In the first, Ozzie Albies reached on a two-out double and then scored on a ground-rule double by Austin Riley to put Atlanta up 1-0.
Cody Bellinger tied the game for Los Angeles in the top of the fourth with an RBI single, but in the bottom of the frame, a walk to catcher Travis d’Arnaud and a double by pinch hitter Ehire Adrianza gave Rosario a chance to bat with a pair in scoring position and two out. Buehler tried to throw one cutter too many past Rosario and the Braves’ left fielder sent a 1-2 pitch over the right-field wall at Truist Park for a three-run homer.
A few scoreless innings passed before a double by Chris Taylor, a walk to Bellinger and an RBI double by A.J. Pollock brought the game to 4-2 in the seventh, with Bellinger and Pollock waiting in scoring position. Matzek came in and struck out Albert Pujols, Steven Souza Jr. and Mookie Betts to get his team out of danger. He set the Dodgers down 1-2-3 in the top of the eighth and turned the lead over to Smith for the ninth."
