Good afternoon
Doing house chores today and trying to clean the drain backup crud from the basement floor. I got a BIG bottle of bleach. I would also like to get some humidifiers done, well see.
10F out there, I ain't going anywhere today.

Good morning, all. First day of Finals Week here at AU. Good luck. Aren't you glad you don't have to take tests this year?

This afternoon there was a cluster of emergency vehicles in our cul-de-sac. Our next-door neighbor and good friend was being taken by ambulance to the hospital. The immediate cause is Covid. His wife took him to the emergency room last night but they sent him home. This time the EMTs had to lift him onto the gurney and wheel him out.
He was already in poor health in a number of ways. No need to detail them on the internet. He'd been vaccinated but for him, given his poor health, a breakthrough infection could be fatal. Maybe the vaccine will give him a fighting chance. His wife isn't optimistic.
He and I have backpacked and hunted deer together. Diane knew him in college before she ever met me. We've had New Year's Eve dinner with him and his wife for the last twenty years or so, except for 2020. This one hits close to home.

We must have gotten close to 8" of snow. I blew the walks and driveway out yesterday evening. Winds howled all night and everything I blew on the north side was filled in with some 4' drifts present to top it off. I just got back from a 6 mile run down I-29 to Thompson (I29 connects Grand Forks to Fargo), and I saw 11 cars in the ditch. My comment: Ugh. Winter just doesn't suit me anymore. I'm sure snow blows a lot in your area. Snow is one thing, blowing snow is another.

2F out there right now.
Simon and Riley are not happy kitties. They want to go out, even though they have a clean cat box, but do so very reluctantly. I opened the door for Riley three times and each time he flattened his ears and shook his head before backing away from the door. When his bladder just couldn't take any more he went out. Simon on the other hand goes out without too much drama. We only give them a few minutes before opening the door and calling them, they come running. We also keep each other informed as to who is in/out at any given time. They are now in for the night and if they don't like that, tough, use the box and don't wake Grandma up to let you out, she really gets mad.
