After playing a half dozen games I like this game better than I did at first. Wordle 218 4/6 β¬β¬π©β¬β¬ β¬π©β¬β¬β¬ β¬π©π©π¨β¬ π©π©π©π©π© Ooh. Interesting strategy.

Apparently some Wordle players start off with five vowels in the first guess. I can sort of see their thinking. I prefer two or three. Like you Don, I like a crossword puzzle. Consonants in an incomplete crossword draw the eye and are usually, I think more helpful early on than vowels are. Wordle is a different animal. (The " your Wordle strategy says a lot..." link seems faulty). Edit - here it is. I think. www.npr.org/2022/01/24/1074532327/wordle-strategy

Thanks, James. Don't know what went wrong.
Previously I started with two words that used all five vowels (ignore y) and five common consonants. Then I decided that finding and ruling out consonants was more valuable. Soon I'll no doubt find another strategy. Once I figure out the right strategy I'll probably lose all interest in the game.

Aioli is a good starter word.

If you're after vowels, "saute" followed by "irony" will get them all.
I didn't do that today.

I'm learning. My first two guesses only gave me two letters but those guesses ruled out a lot of possibilities and that can tell you a lot.

I've just noticed that you can switch to 'Hard Mode' in the settings. It would be an exaggeration if I said that this new knowledge sparks joy. Might experiment though. jdd2, I think I recall the game being unhappy when, as a tactic I tried and was not allowed to enter random letters.

I think if you use βhard modeβ you get an asterisk or something when you share your result. It allows for a small brag.

I admit I haven't tried playing, but early on in this thread I googled and got widely different results for something like "How many five letter words are there in english?" The answers ranged from 5-6,000 to 150,000, and some numbers in between. Also some wavering on permutations of double letters--if 'moons' or 'beech' would be counted once or twice. Same with 'comic' or 'dried', and then what about 'fluff'.
