Happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans. Most of us still love this country despite everything.
Tonight we'll go to our usual July 4th party, see the usual people and watch the usual fireworks show. A lot of shows have been cancelled due to a shortage of fireworks but the one we'll see is still on.
Enjoy your day.

Happy Independence Day! You can be unhappy about how things are going and still love your country.
I'll be making potato salad and later we'll grill burgers to go with it. No other plans. A sort of busy week ahead with 2 medical appointments, 3 Zoom meetings, and trying to get the truck in for A/C service, possible repairs. We rarely drive the truck, but no A/C in Tucson makes it almost not usable. And we have to take it for emissions testing to renew the license next month.

Happy 4th
&0F-85F Rain off and on through the day. Good chance of thunder storms after sunset.
Lazy day. The girls will probably come over tonight to watch a movie because there is a good chance there will be no fireworks tonight.

Important safety tips. #1. If your sound man says, “I checked the weather radar, and the rain is going to bypass us”, double check…. #2 Play under an awning #3. Know where the circuit breaker to the stage is, so when you fail at #1, and the rain starts coming under the awning sideways, at last none of your stuff gets wet with electricity running through it. 😂😂😂🤘🤘

Speaking of sound guys, 20 years ago we were playing at the Tempe Fourth of July Festival. The sound guys never turned on our lead guitarist. My vocals cut out with some frequency and were off for almost all of one song. People said afterwards that what they could hear of us sounded good.

Decided to return home to celebrate the 4th, since the Weather man says it's going to rain all day.
Yesterday afternoon, at the cabin, I had stretched out in my recliner for a little rest, when I heard a lot of yelling outside. The yelling was the Sheriff, in his boat, in front of my cabin, telling me my bank, (hillside) was on fire.
There was a lot of smoke and some flames from buning leaves. The Sheriff said he had called the fire department and they were on their way.
Soon 2 neighbors, who are volunteer firemen, showed up. They were an advance scouting party. Thay surmised, as I had, that the fire posed no danger to anyone or anything, and I had it mostly out by this time. Fire call canceled.
I did get out the garden hose and gave the area a real good soaking. The burnt area is directly in front of my fire pit and I had cleaned out the fire pit earlier. I must have dropped a piece into the leaves that was still a hot ember. My bad. Anyway I got it all taken care of and had a beautiful campfire last night.

Happy noisy grill out day. Hoosiers will go through millions of dollars blowing up fireworks tonight, as they did last night, all the while bitching about the price of gas. If there is a shortage of fireworks in Indiana, it isn’t big enough.

No rain. Band concert in the park coming up. I will spend the evening holding Casper's paw and trying to convince him the world isn't ending. It doesn't take much. A string of lady fingers sends him charging to the basement in a panic.

Well Me Darling Wife corrected me on tonight's weather. She says her morning weather report says it will clear up late afternoon/early evening and be just cloudy at sunset. Fine by me but I would prefer rain so the local fireworks are ruined, had the Fire Dept on our street twice last night, high and/or drunk + fireworks just don't mix.

In some places, particularly dry places, computer-coordinated drone shows are replacing fireworks. Cool idea and no doubt quieter.

Well, Happy Independence Day. The Chicago shooting is casting a bad spell on it, but our neighborhood had a great turn out. Kids attired in red, white and blue costumes, dogs also adorned in colors, a pumper firetruck and city police, all took part. It was a nice neighborhood gathering to whatch the 20 to 30 long block local parade. We sat in lawn chairs with our neighbors, then went to lunch with eldest son and DIL.

A cathartic indulgence. Sufjan Stevens wrote some songs after his mother died. One was called 4th of July. He has done some new versions. Here's one of them.

Our fireworks in Vinton or a couple weeks ago. It was too windy to grill, so I made a Thanksgiving dinner. Why not.
