MichiganFOX 2 Detroit
Music superstar Carlos Santana collapsed on stage at Pine Knob Music Theatre Tuesday night.
Santana was 40 minutes into his set at the time of his collapse, according to witness Lori Pinson of FOX 2. He was then being treated onstage by EMS personnel.
The crowd was told on the loudspeaker that the concert was canceled and was asked to pray for him because of a serious medical issue.
Santana was a couple minutes into a new song titled "Joy" when the incident happened, Pinson said.
"Suddenly the music just died down. I didn't see him collapse on stage, but everyone had him off to the side," she said. "Suddenly a chair appeared where there was not one before. The medics began to rush up on stage.
"Right now he is still on stage. They have pulled a black curtain so you can't see him on directly but he is still on stage."
Concerned concert-goers are lingering at their seats hoping for a glimpse of the singer and guitarist, or hoping for an update on his condition.
Santana, 74, had played a number of hits and appeared to be in good spirits during the show at the outdoor theater.
"He played all the originals everyone loves like 'Black Magic Woman,'" Pinson said. "He was making several statements on the state of the world, all positive. He was telling us about a new song that he had collaborated with Chris Stapleton saying he wanted to write a song that heals the world, titled Joy."

From the Wrap, a more encouraging report:
Rock legend Carlos Santana passed out onstage and had to be escorted off by medical personal during a performance Tuesday at the Pine Knob Music Festival.
Multiple attendees reported that he appeared to have recovered quickly and in one video, he can be seen waving to the crowd as he was escorted off stage.
The show is the latest stop for Santana in his Miraculous Supernatural 2022 tour alongside Earth, Wind and Fire.
According to Fox Detroit reported Roop Raj, the crowd was asked to pray for Santana, though the exact nature of his medical situation has not been disclosed.
Detroit News reported that Santana was performing his song "Joy" when he passed out. Shortly after, the lights dimmed and the audience was informed the performance was over.
Santana, 74, had heart surgery in December, 2021, forcing him cancel several shows.

It sounds like as old aortic valve ….. What happens if the blood can’t get to the brain and you feel like you’re going to pass out. I had that for almost a year and I didn’t know why I had that disorder
I got a new valve. It was pretty simple. TAVR surgery.
Carlos is probably different disorder.
I hope it’s just a simple one - gracias

Thank you for the news, Bill. I don't know much about Carlos, but he always struck me a a very positive guy, both in his interviews and in terms of his lyrics. I am hoping for a full recovery for Mr. Santana.

Pine Knob. That's the local venue (along with Cobo Hall) of my misspent youth. Actually saw Santana there probably 40 years ago.
I wish him all the best.
