The only other "Pop" music that blends much of jazz with pop is from Sting and John Mayer. But regardless of "blend" these guys seem to have had a vision and a unique sound that they sought. Maybe due to the sophistication level, I tend to not get tired of listening to their recordings.

I still see the 60s and 70s songs. I'm not in the 60s/70s.... I just remember it There's been a lot of new musical groups. They like some of the 60s & the 70s (40s & 50s a smidge blues/jazz) and they grabbed a little bit and change it a little bit. and the classic Bach Beethoven Mozart Chopin Vivaldi etc etc a collaboration in the planet - Ripple music.youtube.com/watch?v=T-oTPD9v_uE&feature=share

How their albums were mixed, is a lesson in superb audio engineering. I had discussions with engineers who were familiar with their process (not from the actual folks, but cohorts in the business) and the razor precision, was pure art.

I've always enjoyed Steely Dan but technically it's just a bit before my time (I was introduced to Larry Carlton in college with his solo stuff. Turned out he's most famous for his work with Steely Dan). Ran across this little piece today and I continue to learn more about the band to this day. Jimmy Page's favorite solo? Go figure. Peter, I would guess that you would like most, or all, of Steely Dan's recordings. I love all of the following: Can't Buy a Thrill, Pretzel Logic; Katy Lied, Gaucho, The Royal Scam; Countdown to Ecstasy, and Aja.
Most of their songs appeal to my sense of melody, and a bit of chordal adventure. Lyrics are hit and miss. But as a guitar player, I always enjoy the solos.

Even just coping the rhythm parts is eye opening. I'm largely self taught, but when I did get around to taking it seriously I was already playing Steely Dan. And Larry Carlton. And George Benson. Just not quite as well. And once you're in on the joke, the lyrics are great.

Always loved them, from the first time I heard “Reeling in the Years.” But my fav is still My Old School. The guitar solos by Skunk Baxter…I can’t think of any I’ve loved more. youtu.be/Sq8OU-7JDFA

the Steely Dan thread..... I always checked out the radio music back in the 70s or the 80s and I could never remember if it was Steely Dan or Doobie Bros? (I had too much LSD)
I always turned the music loudly....
Now....I can't hear very well
