Good morning
70F- 96F mostly cloudy and probably humid.
I'll be busy until nap time .
Had a memory from very long ago this morning. My mom kept a tea cup on the shelf above the washing machine for the picks she found in my jeans pocket. If I was out of picks all I had to do was look there.

Yeah I know we are way behind everyone else but I harvested the first tomato from the garden this AM. Still a big deal.
My mailbox is across the road on the neighbor’s property. They are meticulous yard groomers and even built a little rock feature around it. Before I put up the new giant one I asked his wife if she was OK with it. I think she was apprehensive.
Yesterday she left me a nice note in the mailbox indicating she loved it. Whew!

Morning.
Little known lexical fact, "August" is Norwegian for "Tomato Season".
(bet they didn't teach you that, did they, JDD!)

Jersey tomatoes are the best. The sandy soil there is the trick. My grand dad did it best dang they were good. Used to eat them like apples.

One of my favorite tomatoes is "Jersey Boy". It is a cross between Brandywine and Rutgers. Mmmm! So good!

A beautiful day. I enjoyed my sleeping. I can do some waving and a smile. I still have the covid19 - but it’s almost done. Just a little bit….. piano

Chilly this am in Coos Bay. Foghorn off in the distance warning mariners not to run aground. French toast for breakfast. A lazy day planned.

My Samsung refrigerator has not made ice for several years. It freezes up. I can defrost it and chip out the ice block and it might work for a day or two. Samsung refrigerators are notorious for this. Google if interested.
Last week on a whim I called Samsung and asked if they had ever figured it out. Even though I am way out of warranty, the nice lady said they would grant me a waiver and send a repair person.
Yesterday a young man arrived and spent a couple of hours sealing air leaks around the ice maker and doing other magic. So far, so good. He told me to call again if it quit.
Surprisingly good response.

Minneapolis and Baton Rouge at present have identical dew points, 74 degrees, but Mpls' air temp is like 15 degrees higher than BR's, at 94.
Of course, it is raining in Baton Rouge.

I did the same two routes again today in record time. I was driving so fast I was passing trees like they were standing still.

Via a Facebook link provided by my teacher and friend Tom Mitchell. The guitarist is Yiki Wang, the composer is Jimmy Van Huesen, and the guitar looks like it might be an early-Thirties Epiphone. The tune gets called regularly at the jazz sessions I sit in on--it's very interesting to accompany. (And no easy jokes about the title.)

Brandywine and Rutgers are both tomatoes.
The Brandywine tomato is one of the more famous, probably the most generally recognized and appreciated, "heirloom" tomatoes. It's origins are unknown but it first appeared as a named variety nationally in a Stokes Seed catalog in 1889. Stokes said they got their seed from a farmer in Ohio whose family had cultivated it for years. Some say it was named after Brandywine Creek in Pennsylvania.
The Rutgers tomato was introduced in 1934 by Rutgers University plant breeder Lyman Schermerhorn. It quickly became a standout performer in both garden and field.
You don't see the Rutgers tomato offered much anymore but it is recalled fondly. Brandywine is probably the most widely grown "heirloom" tomato and has been riding a wave of popularity of late.
You can't cross a tomato and an apple outside of possibly in a lab via gene splicing.
