AGUA overnight, at long last! The lawns are breathing a collective sigh of relief.

Friday is here!
Things have been steadily getting busier on campus. Classes start Tuesday the 16th, and thousands of students are moving back onto campus now. COVID is already increasing, and I hope I can avoid it at least for a while. It is pretty inevitable that I will catch it again eventually.
Grand-daughter Julia will be dedicated at her church on Sunday, and we hope to have a family gathering immediately afterward, virus permitting. It should be a good day.

It's great to get rain after a long dry period.
Good morning, everyone. In terms of weather it'll be a standard-issue August day. A friend will be coming at 9:00 for backyard coffee. I'll need to do the grocery shopping that I missed yesterday because of a necessary Zoom meeting. That's about it.
Enjoy your day.

A beautiful, slightly chilly day today. A quick visit to the tooth doctor confirms my teeth are OK but I really need to be flossing more. I keep forgetting I have a tooth tattoo until someone new sees it. It, and the crown it's painted on, turns 13 this month. It was a 40th birthday present from my dentist at the time.
I have joined our company's softball team. Everyone thinks I'm joking when I mention how terrible I am, so I am looking forward to seeing what they can do with an old man (relatively speaking, compared to the age of the rest of the team) who is spectacularly uncoordinated and hasn't played softball for 25+ years. Maybe there's some sort of handicap system like golf.

Happy 73rd birthday to Mark Knopfler today.
One of my very favorite guitarists.

I am reading Phillip Short’s new book Putin. About 1/4 into it. Up to his teenage years.
Wow. How would you like to grow up in a run down cold water tenement building in Leningrad sharing three rooms with three families and only one bathroom for the whole building.

I'm one of the few that still wears a mask around here. In fact I have never stopped doing that.

Sitting at the cabin in my recliner, looking out my picture window at the lake as a light rain falls on the steel roof. The lights are off, the radio is is off, just the sound of nature's music.
Forecast was for rain today, so I got all the mowing, trimming and clipping done yesterday, and still had enough energy to sit by my campfire last night and listen to the coyotes singing far off to the east.

Took the day off, and just returned from getting a haircut/beard trim -- I'll look presentable for a day or two. Then I stopped at a newish location of Korean fried-chicken joint Bonchon, brought home some drummies and slaw. Not sure I like the chicken all that much, but the slaw is damn good. I guess Koreans know their cabbage.

I don’t think I get this one, but I don’t know if I’m supposed to get it. Anyway, I find it funny.

I thought it was gardening tools playing the board game Clue.
I went to Ames last night for a Braille School conference today. I wasn't in the mood to eat out with a bunch of people, went to eat by myself, and when I got back to the hotel the weather was just perfect so I took the book I was reading to the large shaded deck to read. People started filtering in from dinner, and after a bit the deck was filled up with about 15 of us old timers. We talked until it was much later than any of us planned, but it was just one of those nice surprise things for all of us.
