Thoughts are with Ken and his neighbors as Tampa is predicted to get hammered today. 10 inches of rain predicted (15 in Sarasota) as Ian nears cat 5.

Good morning
36F-61F sunny
Kitties are NOT happy, it's not Summer anymore.
I don't have to go out today and that's just fine by me, more shop time.
Pine Island near Ft. Meyers is getting whacked and they are only 17 ft. over tidal surge. There will be a lot of 3 bed, 2 bath homes and trailer homes damaged. But the keys that surround the island are full of multi million $ homes and those keys protect Pine Island a bit. Gonna be a lot of very expensive houses damaged. Isle Isabella is one of them.

It was 34 degrees when I got up today -- I notice the dog walkers have picked up their pace -- "Let's get this over with!"

My morning weather report from St Petersburg says that they will be spared from the brunt of Ian. Good news for them, bad news for the folks farther south.
I broke down and turned the furnace on last evening and it is currently running. I didn't see any frost this morning but it must have been close.
Yard work this afternoon.

good morning. Claire and I are fortunate in that we live about 30 miles north of Tampa, about 5 miles inland from the coast. Storm surge and flooding are not an issue here. Our daughter Kelly and her family live in Lutz, a suburban community bordering North Tampa. They have some flooding concerns due to them living by a lake that could possibly overflow with the predicted rainfall in here area. We've all done a full prep for the storm so we'll see. The feelings of dread that I had just a day or two ago are gone but I can only imagine what the folks who live in the areas that are going to be hit are feeling right now. Bad stuff.

Definitely cold. Wife will not allow the furnace to be turned on before October first. I have to clean up the pontoon today before storing it for the winter. Plenty of shop work.
Had a decent wine bar job last night. Not a magic night but we got the job done. We had a long time fan, Bob, that almost never missed one of our gigs. He was at one three weeks ago looking great. He was skinny, upbeat, and worked out regularly. He was 79.
A few days ago we found out he died. Must have been sudden and unexpected as he would often call me if he had medical issues. Last night was weird not having him there.

Certainly, the folks in Florida will be in our prayers at the Cason house.
Like most of you, we are getting cooler weather here, at least for the moment.
Clinic remains typical.
One of my biggest pet peeves is getting activated today: patients who show up late for their appointments. Appointments are not suggestions. Of course, when patients show up late, that makes everything run late, then the providers get blamed for not seeing patients on time.

I'm keeping an eye on Ian due to family in Florida but most are on the east side so should have a lot of rain but not the cat 5 winds. By the time it gets up here it should be a lot weaker but still rainy.
My mower wouldn't start Monday so it went in for repairs. When we delivered it the guy tried to start it and got nothing. He just called and said he went out to work on it this morning and it started right up. He can't find anything wrong with it so I can pick it up and no charge. What are the odds?

Woke up this morning to frost on the grass. I did not wake up too early, so that was good but I am not that far from Paleo and yes, we had frost. Still, only 43 degrees but the sun is shining.
Came home from practice yesterday with some new homework to do. I am getting close to figuring out a couple of tunes using double stops on the mandolin. Will continue to bang on them this morning as the wife is off to CR. I will take advantage of the opportunity to play without annoying anyone but myself.
Have good ones!

It's hotter than normal here. After a long summer, though, it's not unpleasant. We can expect the heat to break before too long.
Good luck to the Floridians. The news has me remembering Hurricane Carla when I was a kid. It was a doozy. We lost power for a few days, if I recall correctly. I thought it was exciting but that's because I didn't know enough to be as concerned as my parents were.

First time for light rain this morning in a long time. Plan is to wash and winterize the trailer today and then put it away for winter. Maybe some light grocery shopping. Wordle was hard this morning.

This just in:
U.S. Bank Stadium will be ready to host the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday if the rematch of the 2020 Super Bowl needs to be moved from Florida because of damage from Hurricane Ian, a Minnesota official said.
John Drum, general manager for ASM Global, which runs U.S. Bank Stadium operations, said staff and the building can be mobilized for a game Sunday night. But Drum declined to comment on preparations, or even the existence of discussions with the National Football League.
Rumors about moving the game from Tampa Bay to Minneapolis started online early Tuesday and quickly generated excitement because of the teams and players involved.
The game would be a match-up of two of the NFL's biggest stars and future first ballot Hall of Famers: quarterbacks Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes. In the 2020 championship game, the Brady-led Buccaneers beat Mahomes and the Chiefs at Tampa Bay's Raymond James Stadium.
U.S. Bank Stadium's 67,000-plus seats would be available Sunday night because the Vikings will be far away, playing the New Orleans Saints in London. The Vikings, the primary tenant at U.S. Bank Stadium, deferred comment to the league.
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the New York-based league wouldn't identify possible alternative sites for the Tampa Bay-hosted game, and that the league is in no rush to make a call.
"We always make contingency plans in the event we need to make adjustments as we continue to monitor developments and stay in contact with the two participating teams along with local officials there," McCarthy said. "We could make decisions later in the week, including on Friday."
Moving the game because of a hurricane isn't unprecedented. A year ago, the New Orleans Saints home-opener against the Green Bay Packers was moved to Jacksonville, Fla., because of Hurricane Ida.

Just about time to tune in the Jan. 6 hearing -- wow, even the local Fox affiliate is carrying it.
On edit, it's been postponed due to Ian, which makes sense.

One of the radiators at our son's house had a small leak in the valve, so last spring when it warmed up I drained the system and took it apart. I tracked down a replacement valve. Because we were traveling a lot this summer I told him I'd get it all back together in the fall before it got cold. Finished it yesterday. It got cold last night. No reason to rush these things.

Ken, glad you could answer this morning. I wonder how AlanC is doing. But us Iowan will take some crappy weather if it would ease up the situation south of us.

He just called and said he went out to work on it this morning and it started right up. He can't find anything wrong with it so I can pick it up and no charge. What are the odds? If it acts up again, just replace the coil/ignition module. When those things decide to go, they seldom go the whole way. They will work fine for a week and then take a couple days off only to start working again after you have hauled it into the shop. There is no rhyme or reason to it. But, if the problem is intermittent, the ignition/coil module is the culprit nine and half times out of ten! It's an easy ten dollar plug-in fix. Mower and engine model/serial numbers and google will get you what you need.

Thanks. I had no idea why it wouldn't start and have no experience with the electrical parts of small engines, this being a 19 horse Honda 2 cylinder.
