I'm not Howard, but if I may chime in... I've never heard of any of these places. Todd?

I am unfamiliar with most of those places.
Faicco's is a traditional Italian pork store, with many other products. I used to shop there when I lived in the Village. I haven't had a slice of pizza from Joe's in a long time, so can't verify the quality anymore. Sylvia's, in Harlem, has a stellar reputation for great authentic soul food. I have never dined there. And the last time I ate at Diner, in Williamsburg (an oh-so-post-trendy section of Brooklyn I avoid religiously), was about 21 years ago. At the time I think it had a mostly French-themed menu. Of course, my memory ain't what it used to be, especially with the never-ending merry-go-round of restaurant openings and closings through the years in New York.
Sorry I can't be of more help. We try not to dine out too often because something as simple as lunch for two in a restaurant, especially in Manhattan, will run you $70 + tip.

Not related, but something I noticed on the map attached to the article. Why is it Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, but THE Bronx? Why not just Bronx?

What about the Staten Island with fireman/cops and City Island (Bronx) with tiny neighborhood ? There's great restaurants, delis.
Whoever put the article, they decided to leave some of the boroughs/neighborhoods?

That part of the city across the Harlem River was originally settled by a Dutch family called Bronck. Anyone who was going to cross the river and visit would say they were going to "the Broncks' farm," or "the Broncks'."
When the name was anglicized, the "ck" became an "x." The definite article stuck.
@t-bob: Most tourists don't go to Staten Island (especially since the demise of Mandolin Brothers) or City Island. They'll ride the SI ferry, get off, get back on, and go back to Manhattan.

I have never been to New York City, but that doesn't mean that I am unable to understand how categories like the "best sit-down pizza place" can't be entirely subjective. It's so much easier here in Iowa. For example, 218 is the best place for breakfast hands down for miles where I live, simply because there is no other place.

You've just described my entire experience of Staten Island.
