If anyone is planning to visit New York during the upcoming holidays, the Whitney Museum has mounted a large retrospective of Edward Hopper's paintings. I plan to go before it closes, but perhaps not during Christmas week. Hopper is one of my all-time favorite American painters, even though I find his human forms a tad wooden.
PS: I will be off that week and would be happy to take some time to show you around town.

John, I did not. Since I don't subscribe to that Imperialist broadsheet, I am blocked by a paywall. Plus, today (or yesterday?) there has been a moratorium on the Times because management has still not agreed on a contract with the union, and it has now been 20 months.
So, I'll just have to go to the Whitney and enjoy the paintings. 😉

Marshall, I almost posted Family Guy and Simpsons parodies, but I am a really huge Bladerunner fan.

Some Hopper trivia... ever since I was a kid and we drove to Wellfleet, MA, for summer vacations, we'd pass this house on Route 6 in Eastham. The outbuilding at the left wasn't there anymore, but the house, I believe, still stands. Of course, there are more trees and vegetation around it now (and a few more houses), and it is a bit more hidden from the road. This painting was done 81 years ago, and reminds me so much of my adolescence—the good parts of it.

I'm not familiar with the Hopper's name, but as soon as I saw the painting in the first post I knew he must be the guy who did the Nighthawks painting. I've always liked that one.
Once again Hwy 20 proved to be the weather dividing line in Iowa last night and today. There are closed schools and lots of snow north of there, just some light rain to the south (where we Iowa Soundholians live). I will never live north of highway 20 in Iowa.

[...] I will never live north of highway 20 [in Iowa].
And there's the lyrical hook for your next song.
