There are two wars going on. The war in Ukraine and the war on Biden.
The war on Biden is U.S. politics. And Ukraine is seen as a weapon to be used against Biden. Par for the political course. Use whatever you can any way you can. Both parties do this. If we had ten parties, all ten would do it.
But the war on Ukraine is a real war. Not a brush to be grasped in an attempt to paint political advantage. Putin's grasp for power may have been fueled by a delusion but the chill of his clutching fingers on Europe's throat is very real (as evidenced by the reactions of possessors of said throat).
There is a fundamental realness to the plight of Ukraine and to Putin's dangerous delusions that exists outside of our ongoing political gamesmanship. There are plenty of grabable brushes to paint Biden with... but Ukraine and Putin is something else. Something more.

If the Ukrainians gutsy and astounding fight against Putin and his dangerous delusions were somehow removed from it all...
I do feel a yearning for, the sensible pull of, a withdrawal from the entirety of the globe; a commitment instead to tending our own garden; the Americas, our continent, the land mass we share.
I wonder, what the effect if, if the stunningly incredible investments of cash and capital we have made across the Middle East and far flung elsewhere had been made instead in the economies of Central America and Mexico... if selfless good intent were the goal, that is, rather than the feathering of a few already too fat bank accounts.
Ok, that is a hell of a big 'if', and I have no idea how or what any of this investment could or should have been made. But, I do know we have spent tons and tons of time and money on problems across the ocean to little useful effect while problems we haven't paid much, if any, attention to are showing up on our borders...
(and exist in our cities, and schools, and land and waters. lots of problems).
But, damn Putin ... The world is just one damn thing after another. Thankfully, I have my own garden.

I think quite a few Americans filter every issue through the left-right polarity. If one side is for something, the other side has to be against it. It's unfortunate.

Yeah,I'm sure every goat herder in the country wakes up every morning and checks the news to find out what Russia thinks the price of goat cheese should be. Why do you hate farmers? P.S. I know you don’t hate farmers, I was just trying to point out that many farmers, indeed, do care about what Russia has to say about the price of their crops.
