Merry Christmas everybody. French toast for breakfast here too. And Santa brought me a headstock tuner, so now I have more than one. That Santa is a pretty smart guy.

Morning (still). Breaking in the new waffle maker. Full house with Anna and Josh, Gus and Aune, Casper, Mimi, and Darla (Anna's cat). Played "Taboo Jr" (intended for 12-year-olds) last night. Team Paul kicked ass! Then we each got to open one present. It was my bad luck that the one present my darling wife got to open was the stick of Old Spice deodorant I got her (as a gag gift). Hopefully, the Swifter Duster-Upper I got her as her main gift will make up for it this afternoon.

Had a quiet morning with pancakes and sausages (was feeling lazy so I used a box mix for the pancakes) and watched Fitzwilly an off beat Xmas movie.
It is a balmy 8 degrees with little to no wind, real shame we don't have anyplace to go and enjoy such a warm up! They are calling for upper 40's by the end of the week and rain, should be interesting on the frozen ground.
May all your holiday wishes come true (so be careful what you wish for).

Presents unwrapped and wrapping paper picked up.
DaWife gifted me a new router table but I knew that because she asked what I wanted. My girls got Papa a new office/desk chair with retractable footrest and it leans way back so Riley and I can nap even better. Best part being I didn't even guess what they got me. They brought it in while I was in the kitchen making breakfast. Oh! and socks, I wanted socks.

The last of our family has departed. It was a fine Christmas. It's 73 outside so it was nice inside or out. I got Amazon gift cards from almost everyone because that's all I had on my list. Put together they'll allow me some nice indulgence.

I just got the good news text that I have tomorrow off. The first time in two years I've had two days off in a row.

Merry Christmas, happy continuing Hanukkah, and Happy Birthday Marshall.
Given the presents that Epaul got his wife, we might want to start taking wagers on when the divorce might be filed.
We had our two sons, their significant others and their dogs at our place. A great variety of food items: Elk steak tacos, Spanish omlette, Drunken noodles with chicken, pineapple-chicken fried rice, "green death" pear lime jello salad, cheese log, cinnamon rolls, homemade sourdough bread, and much more.
Presents were exchanged, dogs fed and exercised, and leftovers refrigerated or sent home with our guests. Time for a toddy and some pickin.

Merry Christmas. Girls are on their way here and I'm about to make the Orange French Toast with berries and whipped cream. Yummers. Is that a recipe for sharing? Sure hope so sounds wicked good.

[...] That pear cake looks scrumptious.
It turned out to be just that, LJ. With French vanilla ice cream à la mode—I did good.
I made Roast Chicken Vermentino for our main course. It was perfect for this weather.
Roast Chicken Vermentino (a deviant variety of coq au vin)
— 2.5 ounces (or 2.5 cups) dried porcini mushrooms, or assorted dried mushrooms — 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil — 2 cloves garlic, finely sliced — Salt and freshly ground black pepper — 1 4.5-pound chicken (cut into 8 pieces), or 4 pounds chicken parts — 2 pounds waxy boiling potatoes, quartered, but not sheltered (Yukon Gold) — 1 Tbs chopped fresh rosemary — 1 cup Vermentino or other crisp, citrusy white wine, like Pinot Grigio — 1 and 2/3 cups of water
1. Preheat oven to 400°. Bring 1 and 2/3 cups of water to a simmer and stir in the dried mushrooms. Soak for 10 minutes but do not boil. Drain, reserving both mushrooms and broth. Roughly (but not violently) chop the mushrooms.
2. Heat 1 Tbs of the oil in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat. When hot, add garlic and cook until golden brown, but not crisped. Add mushrooms and sauté for 2 minutes. Stir in the mushroom broth and bring to a boil. Simmer for about 10 minutes, so it reduces by 1/3. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
3. Trim off excess fat from the chicken pieces. Rinse and pat dry. Place the chicken, skin side down, in one layer, in a large roasting pan. Tuck the potatoes and mushrooms around the chicken. Sprinkle with the rosemary, wine, and the remaining 3 Tbs oil.
4. Season with salt and pepper. Roast in the oven for 30 minutes. Turn the chicken over, season with more salt/pepper, and continue cooking until the chicken and potatoes are lightly browned, another 30-35 minutes more. Serve with the vegetables and the juices from the pan. Serves 4.

Live is good.
