Midnight mass at St. Peter’s basilica was pretty awesome when those RC’s put their minds to it they can put on a fine show. Loved it.

Merry Christmas, y'all.
We had Christmas Eve supper at Tokyo Steakhouse in Salisbury, Md. courtesy of our son and DIL last night. He even picked up the tab and did the 150 mile drive up and back. They are at the local Holiday Inn here but will be over for tree and presents in a couple of hours.

I wish it were a Silent Night, but fireworks going off past midnight. Grrr.
Nevertheless, this fine arrangement:

Driving hundreds of miles of country roads in blizzard conditions may not sound inviting, but it was a strangely peaceful couple of days. All afternoon(s) I had the roads entirely to myself. I could enjoy the beauty and drama of the storm from the warmth and safety of my 4 wheel drive Jeep. "In the Bleak Midwinter" ran through my head (and it dawned on me that Christmas is not "midwinter"). The wind does amazing things with light and drifting snow. Eddies and clouds. Cliffs and mountains. The photo I attached isn't particularly good, but I attached it because it's the scene that I've photographed over the changing seasons (the one I refer to as a Bruce Peeso painting). I photographed it in the springtime pastels of light greens, with the treeline in autumn flame, with a combine kicking up chaff in the foreground....so I couldn't resist trying to capture it in the cold, cold heart of a blizzard.

Merry Christmas. The Chicago kids arrive late today. Roads look decent and it may get above zero.
My wife gave me a DeWalt Sawzall last night. I am a happy camper.

Good morning from frigid New York. I'd like to wish all celebrants a happy Christmas and show off my baking project from yesterday.
A friend of ours sends a box of Bartlett pears from Harry and David each year at this time. There are too many for us to eat before they become overripe, so I made this pear upside-down cake yesterday.
Also, happy birthday Marshall and happy birthday to drlj's lovely wife.

It is 3 degrees & heading up to 12. High 20s tomorrow & 50 by Thursday. It seems the worst of this blast is over. There will be others, of course, but a break this week is very welcome. We actually have blue sky and sunshine.
That pear cake looks scrumptious.

Merry Christmas.
Girls are on their way here and I'm about to make the Orange French Toast with berries and whipped cream. Yummers.

Merry Christmas!
Sipping cocoa with a 60 pound dog in my lap. Dinner for four on tap for 3 pm. Neighbor gave us a beef tenderloin so we’ll be eating well.
Thanks to everyone for another year at “The Hole”.

Good morning, good people. Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah (still). I'm glad the cold is easing for many of you.
We'll have all the local family here for dinner. We'll have tamales, which are a traditional Christmas food in these parts. My wife can order them instead of making an elaborate meal and it makes the day less of a chore for her. Younger daughter is in Colombia with friends and will probably call in.
Enjoy the day!

Merry Christmas to each and all. Cold here and the possibility for some scattered snow showers. Small gathering this morning of family in the area and tomorrow, we may venture off to see the son and his family. All and all, it is a wonderful time of the year. There is a warming trend in the offering for later in the week. We will see if that materializes or not. Happy Birthday, Marshall, have a great day!

My Father's favorite dessert was pineapple upside down cake. I guess we were too dense for it to occur to us that it could be made with a different fruit. That looks delicious!

Merry Christmas everyone. It's cold but relatively calm this morning. Presents have been opened, everyone is busy with their new treasures.
We'll be having a ham dinner later this afternoon.
Wile everyone is busy this morning I'm going to grab a guitar and try too serenade them with some Christmas songs.
