Old year ended well. And the morning trees are covered with horfrost, which I choose to believe bodes well for the new year. It did last year.
Off to the store to the fixings for my New Year's clam dip. Big decision will be.... do I have it during the Vikings game or during Jack Ryan tonight. Maybe I will be diplomatic and have it with both. Diplomacy is good when it comes to conflicts.

Finally up and having coffee with brunch to follow. This brunch will be a group endeavor, with the wife and youngest daughter cooking an item. As for me, I have the egg scramble duty, eggs plus sausage.
Stayed up to see the New Year in then off to bed. It was a bit foggy this morning to start, but it clearing now and it is 33 degrees with no chance of precipitation.
Happy New Years to everyone!

I am in the midst of making Hoppin' John, my first ever attempt at black-eyed peas on New Year's. I cheated by using a pressure cooker for the peas, as I didn't get the idea to make this until about 3:00 yesterday afternoon and didn't feel like soaking the peas. Peas rehydrated, bacon (instead of salt pork) rendered, everything is in the Dutch oven. In another 25 minutes or so I add some rice.
I have a fear that I will be the only one interested in eating it.

Sorry, I was lactatinglectating. Lectating [lek-tay-ting] (v): the art of explaining stuff to others; alternatively lecturing.

Watching the Colts play the Giants. Supposed to be a football game, but what the Colts have been playing doesn't look much like it. Actually hoping the Colts lose. There's nothing to be gained by winning while losses improve our chances of drafting a top QB.

Vikes have the Packers right where they want them, a mere 24 points ahead at halftime. A few adjustments, four unanswered TDs and they'll be ahead!

I've had a pretty weird day already it's always the same day. I know it's a different year.
I'm sure you seen some of the senior assisted places with your dads moms and uncles aunts cousins etc I live where I live and it's an amazing place but there are 70 people/tenants that does a myriad thoughts - dementia, ocd, hoarders, bipolar, paranoid.........
((there are a few people that seems like they're normal))
It's another view for another day..... 2023 2024 1947 ad infinite

Using a pressure cooker for black-eyed peas is not cheating, it's a great route to go. I use beans and black-eyed-peas a lot and the pressure cooker is a great way to prep for them before adding them to a dish. I tried an electric pressure cooker, (not an instant pot, but the same thing), didn't like it and came back to pressure cooking when I went back to the stove top. I use that one all the time.

The new year brought a very rainy day here and a snowy one at higher elevations. There's standing water in the yard. This storm is headed for the midwest next. All the rain and snow that fell here won't fall there. You should thank us. A friend who lives in Greer AZ shared this photo this morning when the rain and snow were just getting started.

I learnt a new word on BBC4, "rebarbative". Mary Beard used it twice when talking about Richard Dawkins in a conversation with Philip Pullman. I smiled at the etymology of it.

quickie lookup:
late 19th century: from French rébarbatif, -ive, from Old French se rebarber ‘face each other ‘beard to beard’ aggressively’, from barbe ‘beard’.
