Or for the Europeans, 1.1.23.
I have no idea why I'm up. But one of the cats wants to hang out with me so here I am.

Good morning and happy New Year. I'm up because I'm up. I was in bed by nine, listening to the battle rage outside. We're starting the year with a rainy and breezy day.
My wife and I both have duty at church this morning. She's playing bells, which allows the choirs a week off. I'm helping with communion and doing what acolytes ordinarily do. This is often a very lightly attended service.
Be of good cheer.

I have no idea why I'm up. But one of the cats wants to hang out with me so here I am. IceSha has taken to hopping up on the bed at between 3:30 and 4:00 ayeminthemorning and licking me until I get up. The fact that I don't have to go to work today didn't occur to her. I'm going to walk in the woods and then do next to nothing. I hope. The other day I saw more wild turkeys in one place than I'd ever seen before. Some kind of convention I suppose, wherein they elect new leaders and decide on the next year's agenda. I always wondered how turkeys organized.

The one of our two dogs who can hear (Eva) spent the entire evening cowering in a corner from the fireworks the neighborhood lit off at Midnight. She has a collar that emits some calming chemical and that helps a little. But she was freaked. While Rocky (who is deaf) had no idea anything was going on. So we spent the dawning of the new year pacifying our pets.

Good morning 20F- 34F cloudy Went to bed before midnight, only a few fireworks in the distance. Up at 8:00 to make coffee and take meds. Iwas going to wake up DaWife but Simon just did that for me as I just heard her curse at him. Now we'll have coffee and then head for the Little Oven. 78 Days Until Spring.

Happy New Year. This is the first day in a week where I feel I am actually getting better. I lost a week, so if anything important happened, someone can fill me in. Sorry I missed the Zoom but I was in bed asleep an hour before it started. I slept 20 hours one day. Not sure which day it was but that’s a loss a person doesn’t get back. Being sick is not as much fun as I was led to believe. I shall attempt to avoid it in the future.
We have wild turkeys around here. I am always surprised when I see them but there are a lot of them. They travel in flocks of 6-7 and strut around like they own the place. Turkey tough guys.
I hope everyone is well and stays well.

Cloudy, chilly and damp, just like yesterday and consistent with the 10-day forecast.
Off for a sparsely attended church service and then swimming with granddaughters.
Happy New Year one and all.

I’m up, and drinking coffee. Today, we will let the robot vacuum loose on the house, and see how that goes. There may be some football watching later. That’s it, I think.

Our only church service today will be sparsely attended. I am one of the reasons. We're staying home and Mr. H is making biscuits and gravy. Once that is consumed, we hope to get our walk done before the rain rolls in. Last night's celebration included some cooked crab meat from Costco with lemon butter, brown basmati rice from TJ's, a relish tray, and champagne. We watched a concert from 2020 with Judy Collins and Jonas Field, then checked in on the Times Square celebration for a short time. I was not much impressed with the celebration or the coverage. I may be old.

AULD LANG SYNE by R Burns
Should auld acquaintance be forgot And never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot And the days of auld lang syne? For auld lang syne, my dear For auld lang syne We'll drink a cup of kindness yet For the sake of auld lang syne And surely you will buy your cup And surely I'll buy mine! We'll take a cup of kindness yet For the sake of auld lang syne We two have paddled in the stream From morning sun till night The seas between us Lord and swell Since the days of auld lang syne For old acquaintance be forgot And never brought to mind Should old acquaintance be forgot For the sake of auld lang syne? For old acquaintance be forgot And never brought to mind Should old acquaintance be forgot In the days of auld lang syne? For auld lang syne, my dear For auld lang syne We'll drink a cup of kindness yet For the sake of auld lang syne

Beautiful sunny morning here after the fog lifted leaving a shimmering frost on the trees. May have to strap on the XC boards.
Still have three guests at home, my oldest kid, granddaughter, and a dog. We are putting up travel posters for how nice Chicago is this time of year but no action yet.
