Rick Danko's birthday was a few days ago.
It's Thursday. All day. Have a good one.

My favorite Rick Danko lead.
Today is filled with work, returning a guitar via FedEx, and who knows what else.

Good morning. I'll report to the eye surgeon's at 8:10 and until then I can't have any food or liquids. Grump. Grump. It'll be good to get this done. Since I can't drive today, little else is planned. Enjoy your day.

Good morning 11F - 29F cloudy It will start to snow again in just a little while. I can't do any shoveling or anything stressful so Me Poor Wife had to dig the truck out this morning and it was stuck so I got behind the wheel and she pushed, but we did get it out. Now it's parked on a North/South street until the plow comes by our street. Then we move it back to our street so the plow can do the N/S streets again and then rinse and repeat. There is so much snow to move the plows are going to have a difficult time finding a place to pile it. Bill has it easy with a driveway and a service to keep it clear. 74 Days until Spring.

40-something in garish Pigeon Forge.the place is embarrassing. Oh come on, itβs craptacular! We havenβt been there in 20 years, I can only imagine itβs gotten even βbetterβ. Sue and I honeymooned in Gatlinburg, the honeymoon capital of the south, more as a gag than a serious honeymoon, but we got a kick out of it. We mustβve truly been in love, because when we went back for our fifth anniversary, we couldnβt figure out why we enjoyed it so much the first time. Sciatic nerve pain has me sitting on a heating pad right now instead of being at work. Light snow (less than an inch) has all the schools not opening for 2 hours, strange.

Friends and I stopped in Pigeon Forge. Sadly, Dollywood was closed. That perhaps explains why the rooms we stayed in there were very cheap. Had a game of crazy golf which was quite a laugh, then had dinner at Applebee's.

Sue and our hiking friends stayed a week in a house tween Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg when we hiked the Smokeys a couple years ago. During the height of the pandemic. Nobody wanted to fly so we all drove separate and stayed in the house, cooked our own meals, and went hiking every day. But we had to drive thru the towns most every day. What a mess. And there were lines outside the all-you-can-eat pancake house every morning. Not a mask in sight. And, when I was gassing up to head home, I got fooled by a trick card reader device at the pump and found an extra $560 tab on my card for buying tires for some yokels truck. (I got the charge cancelled).

I feel for you guys. We've had lots of rain out of the recent storm. And this morning I woke up to a dusting of snow on the grass. Nothing on paved surfaces. I thought of you.

You must not have driven I-70 through Effingham: I have not. In fact, I don't think I've ever been on I-70. My loss, I'm sure.

Another chilly cloudy damp day. Their will be a little variety today with some light snow.
I have been exchanging emails with an attorney. One of my former clients is suing her former tenant of a light industrial building. The tenant had spilled powder coating waste all over the exterior of the building. My company did the cleanup. She is suing the tenant to recover costs of the cleanup. I am both a fact witness and non-retained expert witness. I am testifying voluntarily, not because I want to but to save them the trouble of sending a subpoena. The upshot is that I have to sit for a deposition on January 20th at the behest of opposing counsel. What's worse, this old retired guy has to get up early, dress appropriately, and drive for an hour to be at a law office at 9:00 AM. It's almost like working.
Exciting day today. I have already given the dog a bath, haircut scheduled for late afternoon. Trip to the big box home improvement store midday, with a possible side trip to a recently moved and expanded locally-owned guitar shop.

We were married just outside Gatlinburg in 2014. It is the #2 marriage destination in the country. We have been back several times, as it's a good spot to rendezvous with family. We love it for all of its glorious awfulness - with the crowds, the traffic jams, the over-the-top...everything, etc. BTW Flapjack's is not all-you-can-eat, but it is awfully good (better than IHOP, but in that same category). Getting off the beaten path and into the mountains is good for the soul.
Yes, it is way overcrowded, garish, crass, and every bit a piece of America. To me, along with its connection to Dolly Parton (and the WEALTH of good she has done for the area, the state and the country) it is part of what makes America great. And I am not being facetious, ironic or whatever I usually am when I say that.

You must not have driven I-70 through Effingham: I have not. In fact, I don't think I've ever been on I-70. My loss, I'm sure. With the exception of my 4 years in California (far west of the western terminus of I-70), my one year in AZ (living near I-10), and my 6 years in NE (living near I-80), my entire life has been within an hour's drive of I-70. So, 4 of the seven states I've lived in.

I love that.

Yikes, the overcast just lifted and the combination of bright morning sun and a blanket of snow everywhere you look is just blinding.
