From the Strib's 5 Best Things We Ate This Week: Potatoes have never looked or tasted as good as they did in this appetizer from Namaste, a charming Indian restaurant in Uptown Minneapolis. Golden potatoes are glazed with a spicy concoction of crushed pepper, ginger, maple syrup, sesame seeds, nigella seeds, vinegar and a medley of other spices ($7) and topped with a sprinkle of cilantro. The coating surrounds the potatoes, making a deliciously firm crust while leaving it tender inside. That it was a past winner of the Twin Cities Vegan Chef Challenge is no surprise. The spice level is tolerable even for this Minnesota palate, but having a mango lassi ($4.25) on hand isn't a bad idea. Find the cheerful Namaste Cafe in a restored Victorian house along Hennepin Avenue. The bar churns out an array of top-notch chais and lively cocktails crafted with local spirits, and the kitchen showcases an impressive variety of dishes, including many meatless options. Good luck on deciding.

I am by no means a fan of colonization, but the fusion of Indian and Portuguese food, like vindaloo, and then Indian and British food, like tikka masala or mulligatawny soup (gotta make it with apples) makes for some incredibly edible food.

I don’t know. There is nothing about Indian food that appeals to me. I do not like curry, which eliminates 96.4% of it. I don’t even like the smell of Indian food. If you guys like it, you can have my share.

No. I have not. Ingredients? It's marinated in yogurt for a day or so, but the key is the high-heat clay oven, and spices that do NOT include curry powder. It's cooked skinless and the red color is very appealing.

Tandoori uses yoghurt in the marinade, which is not at all weird when you consider that a fair number of fired chicken recipes say to soak the chicken in buttermilk first. But it's done in an oven, not fried. You wouldn't have to use the whole (typical) spice group, just cumin, maybe a little turmeric, would be enough to point the taste in that direction.

Looks like a good place (I added a photo from there in my previous post). Tandoori dishes are really tasty and healthful, hope you get brave and get some takeout sometime.

It’s close to me. I pass by it 2-3 times a week. I suggest you ask the owner what he or she might recommend for someone to try if they have not liked the Indian food they've tried in the past, and eat that. Or just get the tandoori chicken, which is yummy.

The Splendid Spuds. Great band out of Idaho. The played the college circuit back in the early 70s. People used to hold up potato mashers at the concerts. The crowds used to yell, do the mashed potato, which kind of ticked off the band because they viewed themselves as Prog Rock and didn’t want to do cheesy dance numbers. It eventually led to the break up of the band. The lead guitarist opened a restaurant in Boise. Still there. It’s called Spud’s.

LOVE Indian food and the sight of those potatoes leaves me breathless.
Chicken Tiki Masala (butter chicken) is not Indian food, strictly speaking. It was concocted for their British overlords in an attempt to satisfy their white pale cracker tastes. Still, it's good stuff!
