Epaul, that was a a good synopsis of Steve’s story, but you left out the most important point. The F@$*#ing horses. His muse, his raison d’etre. Without them, he would still be whittling ducks.
Morning everyone, and happy annaversery to Barb and LJ.
The usual here, coffee and Wordle, then of to the eye Doc for a recheck, the new glasses are not working for me. Bike ride after that, most likely.

Our major appliances were just delivered, and without incident. Most of them are in storage temporarily in the basement, but the refrigerator is sitting happily in the dining area for now. The box miraculously fit into the elevator and through the front door and the dining room archway.
New valves on the water pipes, half-wall framed out and sheet-rocked, drop ceiling mostly installed, sub-flooring installed. I'm working from home and it's getting noisy! Onward and upward.

The only history of this date that matters is that 32 years ago today Barb and I were married. The time has gone by in the blink of an eye, but it has been a wonderful 32 years. Now, we are off to celebrate. See you all in a few days. Happy anniversary!

* For the most part motorists in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota were driving responsibly but fast! 73-75mph was turtle speed. * Saw two law enforcement vehicles in 480 miles. I stay in the right lane, keep the cruise set at five over the speed limit, and watch as clump after clump of SUVs and pickups race past me, bumper to bumper. Of course, they all have tinted rear windows, so none of their drivers can see past the car 15 feet in front of them. Idiots. Me too. I tell Pat “here comes another herd”. The types that have their cruise set at 0.075 mph faster than you, won’t accelerate, and take 10 minutes to pass bug me the most. You could roll down your windows and have a nice chat while they are abreast. Overall though folks were pretty good.

Anytime I’m sneaking up on another vehicle, I accelerate in order to pass quickly then wait until I can see both of the vehicle’s headlights in my mirror before pulling back in ahead of them. I always accelerate to pass eighteen wheelers too. It’s just politeness. No one wants another vehicle side-by=side for any distance. When someone does that to me, I just slow down so they can pass quickly.

One trucker trend that I'm encountering more often these days is as I am passing a semi the driver sees in his mirrors enough of a gap behind me to pull into my lane after I've passed, but he puts his turn signal on as I'm still alongside. Scares the hell out of me. Meanwhile, south of Portland, Ore., last week, a 19-year-old in a Beemer was clocked at 176 mph. Be careful out there.

The only time I worry about the big rigs is when there’s a strong crosswind and the driver is fighting to stay in a lane. Otherwise, I treat them as the pros they are.
Many years ago, I noticed that they signal each other when it safe for another rig ahead of them to change lanes (pass or pull in), so I started doing that for them too. I turn my headlights off and on tow or three times as they do, I never use high beams for the purpose as that could be dangerous. Most of the time they will thank me for the courtesy by blinking their tail lights.
Another thing I will occasionally do is pull into the passing lane behind a big rig and hang back to hold up traffic for them so they can pass a slow vehicle. Were I a professional driver having spent “six days on the road and trying to make it home tonight” I’d be grateful if people did that for me.

I picked up an outgoing letter addressed to Glenn Miller. I wasn't sure if I was in the mood to deliver it.
"I've got six cents about this." "You mean you've got a sixth sense about this?" "No, I've got six cents about this. See, Penny Small lives just four doors down from John Nichols. And I'm thinking if they got married, she'd be......"

Oh, I got my raise today. Along with it comes benefits -- some that will benefit me and some that I'm past the age for (like retirement -- though they will match anything I put in, so I'm certainly going to). I'm a full-timer now -- a PTF -- a regular without a regular route. The regular route thing might change within the year, though.
One of our most valuable subs is dealing with a family crisis right now and, as such, in his absence I'll be doing more hours than I already have been. Fortunately, the newest hire -- a younger man named Casey -- seems to be working out very well and will take some of the burden off me.

Sorry to hear that, Bob.
Nice day here. Coffee and sunshine. Bike ride. Only two shopping days left until I meet David at a (new to us) vintage guitar store that appears to focus on old Japanese guitars. Think Takamines, Alvarez Yairi, etc. looking forward to that.
