Today in history:
1962 US astronaut Scott Carpenter aboard Aurora 7 (Mercury-Atlas 7) orbits the Earth three times in a flight just under five hours.
Have a good day, and don't space out.
(Where is Mike Gilles when you need him?)

And it's off to Wisconsin this morning for me, a little weekend getaway.
Details to follow, maybe.

The only history of this date that matters is that 32 years ago today Barb and I were married. The time has gone by in the blink of an eye, but it has been a wonderful 32 years. Now, we are off to celebrate. See you all in a few days.

Morning. A little cool, cloudy, and intermittent rain has improved the air quality here so good news. Since Monday is a holiday thinking about taking half of tomorrow and Friday off and making a really long weekend of it. We'll see what the Door Gods have to say.

Back from Chicago last night. Drove it straight through. Pretty uneventful. Observations? * For the most part motorists in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota were driving responsibly but fast! 73-75mph was turtle speed. * Saw two law enforcement vehicles in 480 miles. One stop. * Tons of dead deer on 94 between Madison and St Paul. * Being around two college kids and one HS grad is energizing but revealing as to your geezer quotient. * Lacrosse is a really violent game.

Question: Do you own this door manufacturing company or are you simply the most valuable, indispensable employee there? Curious minds want to know.

Well, my lawn guy had a family emergency that took him out of town late last week, and in the meantime, my yard has gotten totally out of control -- seriously, the dandy lions in the front are a foot tall! He promises to hit it today. I am sure my Chemlawnish neighbors are not happy, even though I am giving them tons of free seeds!
Beard trim on the after-work agenda -- it, too, has gotten totally out of control.

Mine is getting near the 12" mark but I always let it grow before the first cutting because the kids need to fight out a cutting schedule. I think Zar got it and will be over soon. Doesn't matter as the bees can really use the dandelion flowers. That right there is the only reason to have a lawn. Otherwise they are just a time wasting piece of ornamental crap. They do keep the ground from drying out but so does Bill's creeping Charlie lawn out back and it provides flowers for the bees also.

You must have been gone for a stretch, we all know Steve's story. (And, yes, he does own the company, but it is how that came to pass that is the story.) An Alaskan native, Steve was working his way south as an itinerant exotic dancer when the cable holding his cage at Big Louie's Truck Stop snapped. Steve and cage took out six fortunately empty tables, and a shaken Steve vowed to cage dance no more. But it was all he knew... One day while despondently whittling a duck while sitting at a bench waiting for the soup kitchen to open, a passerby stopped to admire his work. "That's a mighty fine duck" the fellow said, "do you whittle other animals as well?" "I can whittle a moose", said Steve. "Ducks and moose, that's pretty much it." "Could you whittle an elk?" "Hmm, I think I could, with a little practice". And the fellow hired Steve on the spot to whittle ducks, moose, and elk on the doors he was making. Soon Steve became the fellow's trusted right hand man. And when the time came and the fellow wanted to retire or move on or something, Steve bought the business, lock, stock, and shavings, and greatly expanded it. Now, not only could you get doors with ducks, moose, and elk, you could get doors with bears, lions, aardvarks, wombats, and mountains, and trees, and old Chevys. The rest is history.

Good morning.
54F-75F mostly cloudy.
Well one of the 3 people coming by yesterday were no-shows. But they did reschedule for today. Got my SS deposited so it will be a hot time in the old town tonight, maybe I'll order a pizza to celebrate.

Purchased the company on 1/2/2008. I'm getting a little long in the tooth though. PM me if you want to buy it. It is, unfortunately, in sucky Montana. And the subway system isn't so good here. p.s. on follow up we do have a Subway sandwich shop about 30 minutes north of us though.

Yeah, I was never quite certain, and then I visited your website and didn't see you named as principal. Thanks for the offer, but I am nearing the end of a 51-plus-year career. Besides, except for you, I don't know anyone in Montana, and I am not interested in vast acreage to mow, or owning any f***ing horses.
In some of our subway stations here, we have sandwich shops, cafes, barbers, newsstands, and much much more!

I stay in the right lane, keep the cruise set at five over the speed limit, and watch as clump after clump of SUVs and pickups race past me, bumper to bumper. Of course, they all have tinted rear windows, so none of their drivers can see past the car 15 feet in front of them. Idiots.
