On this day:
1944 The US armed forces land on the beaches at Normandy, France, in an effort to reunite Western Europe. When we were more innocent and fought for freedom for all people.
They aren't called The Greatest Generation for nothing.

If Japan hadn't bombed the US in Pearl Harbor, we would have sat out of Europe. As Churchill said, "You can always count on the Americans to do the right thing, . . . , after they've tried everything else first."

I admire the guys who went ashore on D-day. They deserve our thanks. I don't fault the Americans who thought the war was other people's affair until we were attacked. Remember the phrase "don't borrow trouble"?
Good morning, all. Off for a walk while it's pleasantly cool.

Remember the fallen.
Looks like a lovely day starting. High of 75 and, we hope, some rain just may show up.

Sunny and hazy.
Back to grinding concrete, then cleaning up for granddaughters 5th grade graduation.

Lady friend Barb and a friend of hers went to Normandy for the 75th anniversary of D-Day, a Road Scholars trip. She brought me back a ballcap that I wear with pride.

Coffee with the old farts. Then lunch at Don Chilito’s. Then some errands and a Kaiser visit to see if they can replace a failing battery in my hearing aids. I’ll need to load up on antihistamines, as my nemesis, grass pollen, is very high.

Good morning
66F-84F mostly cloudy.
Rain in about a half hour. I'll check on Simon but I doubt he'll come in. We are at that point were he will come in to eat or drink and that's about it. Two old ladies have a garden allotment in the park across the street and come to visit him every time they tend their garden. Simon being Simon he loves the attention. I'll start putting a bowl of water out on the porch during the day now.
Gave a Dylan Hollis recipe a try last night, YouTube. Dylan does recipes from old cook books and magazines, late 1800s to 1980s. Lemon Cheat Pie with *strawberries on top. 4 ingredients mixed and pop it in the freezer. We'll try it today but I tasted the batter, this should be GOOD. This is dead easy and you can do all sorts of variations on it. It will be in the Library.
* my addition.

A busy morning, I spread some bug killer this morning and then ran my emergency generator for about 15 minutes. I need to drain the gas tank, but I need a clean container to drain it into. Currently all my gas can are full.
This spring I put up a small platform under the porch/deck overhang, thinking a Robin would build a nest on it, no takers. I decided it was to visible and exposed, so I rebuilt it and moved it, making it more difficult for preditors to see. I now have a pair of purple finches busily building a nest!

Thanks, Howard. My dad was one of the guys in the landing crafts at Omaha. He spoke of it very little but did say that the water at the beach was red. He went on to the Battle of the Bulge...spoke little of that as well except to say Christmas Eve/Day was beyond brutal. All honor and respect to him and his brothers.

Cloudy and warm. By first off-contract day has consisted of a couple zoom meetings. No rest for the weary but I can handle it.
