... Hopefully those storms in Nebraska will move here and give us some much-needed rain. And us off as well Hmmm, so Iowans get a little kinky when it rains.

Beautiful summer day here, 83°F.
This morning I saw something unusual for this day and age. A young woman on a walking path carrying an umbrella for a sunshade. It was solid black, unlike the parasols of early in the last century.

Bought tickets for a Tommy Emmanuel and Molly Tuttle gig in Bath next January. Am taking break from a bit of a standoff with a Shelob-like spider in the bath to watch Medvedev v Alcaraz in the tennis.

Sunny and dry here. Like a lot of places, and like Mike said, too dry. We really need rain. The fires are ramping up again in the interior. Meeting some friends for lunch, then heading to the Harrison Lake Festival of the Arts, then dinner tonight with two daughters — our eldest is heading out today, after being here for a couple of months while recovering from a bad ankle sprain and laser eye surgery. She’s going back to Seattle where the current gig is. Our youngest is in Greece, traveling with a friend, where it’s now insanely hot and dry, expected to get over 110 today.
We are having what would normally be considered an excellent summer here, with little rain, and not too hot. Trying to feel good about it, and enjoy it for what it is, and not worry about all the poor folks losing homes or at best being forced out for extended periods. We keep importing firefighters from elsewhere, but at some point, there isn’t going to be enough firefighters in the world to control all that’s burning, here and elsewhere.

We're just settling in at Desert Plantation near Woodville MS. Church friends own the place and we're house-and-dog sitting here while they're on holiday. It's freaking GORGEOUS. Built in 1809 and the grounds are like a Gothic movie set.
Family will be coming to enjoy with us next week. Meanwhile, it's skinny-dipping in the pool and mint juleps on the veranda.
Late 1700s/early 1800s Wilkinson County Ms and West Feliciana Parish LA we're the wealthiest counties in the US. On the backs of slaves, no doubt.

Lake Shore Drive at the turn of the century. Oh, wait. I was on Lake Shore Drive at the turn of the century and it didn’t look anything like that. It was filled with busses, trucks, autos, and taxi cabs all honking at each other and everyone trying to pass everyone else at the same time.

Marshall is referring to the beginning of the 20th century.

Back from a routine checkup, pleased to learn my BP is down (miraculous, considering the stressful workday I just endured), weight down, and I survived the Covid booster and a blood draw. Made it home w/o having to encounter any storms from the very dark clouds headed this way.
I didn't know whether to laff or cry when I opened mail from the outfit that plowed my driveway last winter, saying I could save $25 by re-upping before Aug. 15.

Amazon Prime Days. 311 parcels. We had 7 routes down and only 2 subs. We didn't even try to deliver mail. All we could do was try to get all the Amazon out to make room for the next day. Meanwhile, the mail piles up.

Well that sucks. I don't want packages delaying my mail.
Actually I don't want other people's packages delaying my mail.
Actually I want my packages and my mail. My neighbors can go to heck.
Edited to add: I want all my groceries in one sack. And don't make it heavy!

"Slippin’ on by on LSD…" I love it. Never heard of this group but they sure do a nice job. They were popular in Chicago in the 70s-80s. That song gets airplay to this day on Chicago stations. At least two of the members have passed away. That was probably their most recognizable song.
