I edited a long interview piece this morning on Lucinda Williams, who's playing five nights at the Dakota in Mpls. next week. I somehow had missed the news of her suffering a stroke in late 2020, but she has fought back hard and is writing (songs and a memoir) and recording and performing, albeit no longer playing guitar due to diminished motor skills.
She says her vocals seem stronger than ever, though -- "I can still sing my ass off," she told our music writer.
I've always loved her stuff, and she came across as deep, thoughtful and funny in this interview, a real trouper at 70.

Glad to hear she’s still performing. A stroke is a real attention grabber.

Glad to hear she’s still performing. A stroke is a real attention grabber. She's still singing. A lot of people get a stroke and have problems with the whole left body. Strokes are different. Obviously I got a stroke (a clot in my heart - blocked in my brain)and I got a coma and then I can walk exactly OK but I couldn't talk. Broca - compartment brain. I did had some problems with the memory for guitar. Now I'm much better to play piano
