Just back home from a 34 mile bike ride.
Now, how should I waste the rest of the day?

I motored over to Axman Surplus yesterday to buy a new computer mouse, was in and out in about 3 minutes. If Marty had been along, we wudda stayed a couple hours, his kind of place. Oh Yes! Thanks for the reminder Bill. They may be the one place I can find 400w Zener Diodes to fix my Mr. Coffee.

I really like hardware stores, second only to guitar shops. Happily, there are several good ones [hardware stores] in walking distance.
AxMan Surplus is not a hardware store. It started out as a surplus military electronics warehouse. Back then you could fine surplus military grade amp tubes dang cheap. You could also find tube radios and other equipment that could be used to build a tube amp. They would have crates of transformers, chokes, multi-caps all you have to do was dig through them and take what you wanted to the counter. Now they are doing a lot less of that and more surplus household and office items. But it's still worth just walking around and looking. I have a supply of 3/32" x 3" dowel rods. They had them in bundles of 50 for 25 cents each. I bought the whole kit and caboodle and over the last 20 years have given them out to clients and friends for doweling holes or other repairs and will still have some when I drop off my twig.

Back from the Doc. Decided I'm going to the Goodwill Store to see if I can find a replacement for my Mr. Coffee. Since it is Friday I will hit any garage sales on the way. I have a back way up to the Goodwill that passes through neighborhoods and doesn't use main streets. This way I'll see the garage sales instead of weeks old signs left out on the main streets. One of my pet peeves is leaving old sales signs up. Garage sales signs should be addressed and dated. Then removed within 48 hours of the close of the sale, not left to rot and clutter. Signs not addressed and dated should be torn down and signs left pass 48 hours of the sale possibly cited. Our area gets corners covered in old sales signs left to rot. Check your phone messages.

Well, this morning's $7 car wash was kinda spoiled by an afternoon rain shower I didn't expect with my car in the driveway, but I'm willing to accept that cuz we got some really needed moisture on the ground.
Just a final rinse cycle.

Axman is my favorite Marvel Superhero. That must be an acquired taste: (biography) "The barbarian Axeman Bone’s history is like that of an old folk legend. At birth he was deemed a monster, due to his being an Imperial Prime like father Emperor Angmo himself. The Emperor Angmo frowned on competition and if he knew of the young Prime's existences, it would have been killed and his head sent to the Emperor. To save the young infant they chained him in a dungeon for over ten years. It was only after a villager with loose lips let the secret of the young Prime out and within hours Angmo sent his Imperial Dreadnaughts with their death fire bombs to kill the Prime. However, instead of killing the rival Prime, they freed him. All he had ever known was chains and darkness. Trapped with only the memories of his pain he began and endless slaughter of the Emperor soldiers. He would later come to know of reason, rhetoric and ethics, philosophy and art. Although, on this day all he knew was the sharp pleasure of payback. Ten year later while the warrior Yenrag was leading the Honor Guard to the hunting grounds of upper Vandro, the Emperor and Guard were attack by a Horrowbeast. The barbarian savage that got away came to their rescue by quickly slaying the beast with a large axe. The Axeman immediately attacked the Emperor. Yenrag had witnessed the Father Emperor tear out the burning heart of a Mawkaw Magkong, break the battle shields of thirteen Native Kings and slaughtered three hundred Bot-crossed warriors in the final battles of the Wars of the Empire. This day Yenrag would see the death of the Emperor by the hands of the Axeman Bone. After the massive explosion ravaged the planet of Sakaar, Axeman Bone emerged from the ashes of the charred planet and assumed the mantle of power left by the Green Scar and his Warbound Warriors. After learning of the Green Scar’s son’s existence, Axeman Bone began killing all the children of Sakaar in search of Skaar fearing that he might prove to be competition for the throne of Sakaar."

Holy crap! There really was an Axman? I had no idea.

I marvel that in this day and age, with all we know about politics, and sausage making, that anyone has a superhero.

Don't listen to me Howard. I'm having vertigo problems today and not sire of half of what I say. Just got up from "hanging my head" to help balance my inner ear and it seems to have helped but if this keeps up I'm going to he ER. I'm sure Shawn next door will run me up there and take care of the cats should I need to stay.

Packing up to go to camp, specifically Clawcamp. .......... but I approach it with some trepidation, in that a noted teacher and other campers will know just how badly I suck at clawhammer banjo. Iowa people - stand by to wave at my neighbor Jim as he rides through your town. Jim recently turned 70 and decided to ride RAGBRAI this year. The route goes through Amana, seems to run close to other Iowa SoundHooligans. Sounds like Joe might be able to give him a wave. As far as Tamarack on clawhammer, I am one of the few soundhooligans who has has the pleasure of hearing him. He is actually quite good, but as soon as he realizes someone is listening he stops. Enjoy the camp, Don, you deserve to get away for something like this.
