I'm not a sports fan, and my memories of going to events as a child were seeing musical performances rather than baseball or football games, but I really enjoyed this movie.

Alert readers might recall the Strib Travel piece I shared in 2012, I think, about Miesville, a little town about a half-hour south of St. Paul, which has a terrific burger joint, a time-warp supper club, and the most beautiful town ballpark you ever did see, home of the Miesville Mudhens. Lonnie was with me on the "research" trip, and ate everything in sight -- God, I miss that guy.

I have always been amazed on the lasting effects of this movie. The Field of Dreams in Iowa just gets getting more and more popular as time goes on. Now there have been pro games there. (Not this year because of construction).

I went to ball camp there and hit an opposite field double into the edge of the corn.

Are used to go to the prison ( San Quentin ) and play as a 2nd player or right fielder

My grandson played travel baseball this summer. They went to a tournament at the Field of Dreams. There are several fields there now. They did get to do a practice clinic on the actual field from the movie. I though it was very cool. But it didn't mean anything to the kids. Just another game.

The Pro field is under reconstruction, so they didn't do the MLB game this year. But it will be back next year. Frank Thomas, the Big Hurt, who played for the White Sox for years, reportedly is a major owner in the Field of Dreams complex. He had a minor role in the movie. He was swinging in the batting cage in one scene I remember.
