Cloudy, chilly, rainy later. Dragging this morning after a late night at the emergency veterinary clinic. After I had spent a long day with the younger granddaughters, my daughter called me and said you gotta come here and look at Bailey. Bailey is our eldest granddaughter's puppy, a 6-month-old Pomeranian/Dachshund mix. She was very lethargic, and could only walk a few steps clumsily before lying down and sleeping. She was also making a weird whining/snorting/wheezing noise. Off to the emergency vet. Turns out our daughter and granddaughter had taken Bailey to daughter's friend's place; Bailey started acting strangely as soon as they got home. The friend and her boyfriend are heavy cannabis users. This puppy was high. The vet tech at the receiving desk essentially diagnosed her, and told me they see stoned dogs every day. Most likely Bailey had licked up crumbs of bud from the kitchen floor (Bailey is only 8 pounds, so it wouldn't take much). Four hours and $500 later, I got home. We were advised to keep Bailey off of furniture and off of stairs until she regained stability, so she curled up on the living room floor and I slept on a recliner. Off to the grocery store, hopefully for the last time before Christmas day, then a nap. That really pisses me off. People think because something is now "legal" then all precautions can go out the window. Not to mention being stoned around kids - that can be extremely frightening to the kids. All adults involved should be ashamed of themselves (though shame is in short supply) AND they should be paying you back.

I like both oysters and Blue Oyster Cult. Rock on Renee.
Jan, I get it. When we were on our Kentucky bourbon trip, we stayed at the Kentucky horse park and I got to meet and absolutely feel in love with a Belgian draft horse named Quin. He was special and so sweet. I wanted to take him home. Certain animals stay with you, emotionally.
Irresponsibility with psychotropic substances pisses me off. Dogs and kids deserve better.
Raining like heck here, supposed to break up to light occasional showers by this afternoon. Been messing around with the Dead’s Brokedown Palace. The second verse was somehow not right. Figured out the second verse has a different chord progression from the first, now it works. Duh.
Anyway have a good day and keep the rubber side down.
Mike

We're subbing our "Ferrari" review for one from another news service, and the rating jumps from two stars to four.
Maybe I will see it, after all.

Bailey seems to be entirely back to normal.
We are way beyond irked at this situation. Our daughters friend T has been her best friend since middle school, and an honorary daughter to us. T has made a lot of horrible choices, particularly in regard to relationships. I could go on at great length, but I won't bore you with details.

Covid report: After the full course of Paxlovid, C and I both tested negative yesterday and are no longer feel "sick," though I still have a stuffy nose and occasional coughing and C feels a bit draggy-tired. Apparently there's a chance of "rebound," in which a rear guard of the virus rallies and restarts symptoms, but that's not a statistical certainty. So we're well enough to do some errands and get supplies to weather the holiday weekend. (Childless heathen geezers have to get through such periods by stocking up on takeouts and Tivo recordings.)
Covid, by the way, seems to be making its own Xmas joy--a bit of resurgence of cases, signaled by an increase in viral particles in the local sewage. Be careful out there, it ain't through with us yet.

I just woke up. Seems like it’s cloudy. It’s normal California I guess. It’s time for great music. Bach Chopin - not opera. Enjoy your day

Day three. Starting to believe I will survive my knee replacement. After watching me walk around the facility, my therapist ok'd the use of a cane for around the house. I'm walking pretty well and my range of motion is good. Still very appreciative of the Tylenol.
Rob, did your new knee come with a grease zerk? Two squirts a day.
(there is no grease zerk)

Bailey seems to be entirely back to normal. (Although he did polish off a huge bag of Doritos.)

"Childless heathen geezers." Russell, way to edit down to the fewest possible words.
Still raining here in Tucson. Got over a half inch so far. I have done all of the inside chores that I felt like doing. I may have to break down and make some music.

Rough, cough-filled night. And now my wife has this crud.
I am thankful that my shopping and present wrapping is done, cause I don't have the energy to do much of anything. Time to put on a mask and make a quick trip to the store to resupply with OJ, Kleenex, and cough syrup.

David--you've tested for Covid, right? Though there's certainly enough ordinary respiratory crud going around. 'Tis the season.

Last horse class today. I have spent 16 weeks with these horses (four of them). “Mr Skittles, “a pony” was my favorite. He was playful and sassy. As I would put grooming supplies up on the shelf in his stall, he would take them one by one and throw them on the floor as I was grooming him. I always found that so amusing. “Ranger” was a lover and always put his head on my shoulder. “Stella” was a diva...we understood each other completely. LOL! “Bleu” was quiet and gentle and loved to be groomed and loved. We lost “Monet” to cancer midway during this class. I was able to spend time with him the day before the vet euthanized him. I feel fortunate to have had that opportunity to say good bye. I am really going to miss all of them.
Janice, you may remember that my daughter has been riding since she was about six years old, yeah? I took this photo of her on Parents' Day (and last day of) summer camp, August 2022, just after she had won a blue ribbon for all the things on which the girls were judged—form, discipline, control, posture, etc. I think the horse's name was Noah. Notice how nicely the girls had plaited his mane.

(there is no grease zerk) Again, because of Nancy's Christmas spirit and an extra 50¢ I was able to get the lifetime lubricated knee. (However, as I was reading the warranty, I find that lifetime lubricated means if the grease wears out they send around the warranty adjuster to club you in the head.) Stop by CarX and Lenny can install the zerk. Only takes a minute.

Congruatulations to Hope. Beautiful horse and very lovely young lady.
